That's because increasingly a degenerate culture has crept in, influenced no doubt by Bollywood/Hollywood.

random stat from the paper: 45% of women in Delhi claim to have been victims of 'teasing': unwanted verbal, physical and other confrontations.

Think about it, the size of Delhi and the numbers claiming harassment!

& whose culture is that? Indian/Western/Borg/Jedi? If that's an excuse....

C'mon, at least face up to the facts, that, in a paternalistic society like ours, this is one unfortunate effect. That women are not regarded as much.

& leave the scriptures at the door. It doesn't matter one whit what they say; It's what's practised, that matters.

Varanasi was the only place that I saw lots of bulls walking the streets. Must admit I found it quite intimidating and frightening. Cows are OK, but bulls are a different matter!

Difference between Bulls and Ox

First allow me to have a quite laugh (at the expense of those unfortunate bull-baiters :-) ...)

Secondly, looks like there are not many Indians (at least on this thread)...lemme elucidate..

Bulls are generally castrated and are called Ox there after...Only Oxen are used for the purpose of Agriculture. Bulls are sacred... the reason being that sometimes, while giving birth, the Cow experiences difficulties (juss like human birth)... to alleviate the pain of those cows, with rituals, the offspring (of the cow in cow-birth) is dedicated to Lord Shiva... These bulls thereafter are never put under any kind of restrain whatsoever and are fed by everyone...in fact every shop-keeper feeds them..so much so that they develop a routine and visit particular shops at particular times.

Bulls ARE agressive and NO ONE ever takes them lightly (religious or not)..they are generally to be avoided (if you desire a long life)..Once in a blue moon, bulls fight, and THAT is a spectacle (please keep your distance though :-)...)

I believe that these "rituals" that allows certain bulls to be spared the castration blade allows for the availability of 'studs'...

Yes, and some arre donated to the village temple so that the breed can be passed on. The stud Bulls, I mean. At least in TN, the prized bull is offered to the temple as a vanity prize as well as propitation to the Gods,

but... The thing about abuse of women, 'Eve-teasing'... My guess is that it has been going on for ever, it is just that now only it is being increasingly recognised as wrong, so it gets publicity. In this respect, the more it is in the news the more it is being disaproved of, and that is good.

"Eve Teasing" refers to too many different things to be a valid "crime" or statistic. Yes, sexual battery falls under Eve Teasing, but so does flirting or just two college kids of the opposite sex horsing around. If you get whistled at, you've been Eve Teased. If a guy leers at you (which generally isn't a crime), you've been Eve Teased.

You agreed with me that the rape rate is higher in the west, so what's your logic for that ?
I don't think it says anything about White males as a species.

When someone says all Indian males are bad, that doesn't leave a lot of room for argument.
I am racially an Indian male, and I personally could care a rats behind what people think of my race.

when someone says that someone has said When someone says all xxxxx are bad, that doesn't leave a lot of room for argument and I can't see that they did, it doesn't leave much room for anything.

Years ago, I took my dog to the vet to have him neutered. The rascal castrated him!(gave me a big explanation why he had to do so). But that did not make my pet less aggresive. He had never intimidated anyone before and was always friendly with visitors, but since then, he always attacked the vet whenever he visited us. We had to lock him up every time the vet came visiting (on social calls). Luckily, he was as friendly as before with the other guests. Must be different with bulls with all that testosterone their apparatus produce.
...and I took the road less travelled.

Thanks for pointing that out, I certainly said nothing of the kind. I just had a dream, that's it.

It amazed me to see Indian's working bulls. very impressed. That was one of the labours of Hercules, plow a field with a pair of large and aggresive bulls instead of docile oxen. They are very cool these drivers and animals. Actually I found hormone crazed cows with new babies more of a problem. They are such great animals.

I used to have very vivid dreams of showing up in school in my pyjamas, a little lower anxiety level than that of strolling a public Indian street in a bra maybe. But then maybe you were just picking up stray radio waves. Was it a wonderbra?

I agree nick, raping and pillaging has been going on since the year dot. I doubt it has anything what so ever to do with race. And I doubt highly that there are more rapes in western countries, i dont think there is any way of finding out statistics on things like that - all you can say is that there are more being reported.

anyway......
