Just thought I would bump this as the train station scam was in full operation yesterday. They have added matching bomber jackets to the fake id's now too. I just ignored their claims with a sarcastic "whatever" and carried on.

Another method I used first time in Delhi was to tell them I was going to the Ginger hotel which is over the footbridge, this also avoids any confrontation.

Very disturbing scam and one that anyone could fall for. As usual, be wary of anyone approaching you offering to help, especially at the train stations. Ask to see ID if not sure.

Regarding the taxis...Always ask first before you get in and if the taxi driver doesn't know how to get there, then find one who does. As well, if the taxi is not metered, negotiate up front. Write the fare on your hand, show it to the driver, and make sure he understands that is what was agreed upon.

folks i ll share my story with delhi taxi scammers ...so me and my friend were traveled to delhi for job interview and reached there around 3:am while we were sitting on bus stand so many auto rickshaw drivers gather around us asking where we going ,so i told then that we are going for job interview in subroto park area and we will wait here then go to interview venue from here but they said its not right(less safer) to sit here because but for pakistan(bus runs between lahore pakistan and new delhi india) leaves from here and police will come and remove us from here due to high security to bus . the guy convinced us to take us to subroto park area so we can wait there and much safer but instead he took us to Oppsite direction towards jhandewala mandir area (which we didnt know about because i am not familier with delhi roads) to some motel which we were forced to pay 750 rs to sleep just for 2.5 hrs without any service when we were leaving the motel in morning the hotel manager forced us to pay service tax without giving any receipt and tip to waiter which didnt even served us one glass of water .we left motel and found out subroto park is 60 kms from the point we were at was just 30 kms away from ISBT(main bus stand kashmiri gate )and none of the auto driver would take us there due thats not there area to go ,but we convinced one driver to take us there for double fare what we would normally pay to get there and end getting late after all these efforts we made to get there on time because auto driver want to make money commision money didnt cared about us getting late for interview .i got cheated in my own country , and left with limited money just enough halfway pay bus fare to home without any food for 12 hr journey didnt get job due the getting there late for interview after spending whole month salary on bus fare to and from delhi ,motel ,auto rickshaw fare and cheap street food ...i still feel sad for that day ,why that did it to us ....

About the train station scam with the tickets and all that, i was told to tell them you are just waiting for a friend?
does that work?
I guess if you carrying a lot of lugagge, it may look sorta suspect...
but maybe that would keep them away?
i dunno....

I was very surprised, when I got to ND station in late November, to NOT be stopped by someone telling me the Foreigner Ticket Office was closed. Ya know, I went straight up the stairway, and sat in the queue, filling out the forms while I waited. And when I went back there a few days later to get my train, I just showed my ticket to a kuli, handed him my bags, and we walked striaght through! All the scammers must have taken those days off!

but.but.but.... they told us a superhero was visiting the station on that day, and we were warned to stay away at the risk of forfeiting our lives.

Why should I feel obliged to provide any explanations on where I am going and what I am planning to do?! Unless I am approaching the gate of Rashtrapati Bhavan or something like this.
I do it this way: polite "thank you, I can handle it myself" on the first attempt, "as I said, I don't need help" on the second and a clear "f off" on the third
