Hello Dear Experts,

I am planning to visit Jaipur-Udaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Bikaner-Jaipur (round trip) in the last week of November. Tentative itinerary as follows.

D1: Reach Jaipur from Kolkata by plane at 9.05 am. Book a car for the full trip.

D2: Jaipur

D3: Start for Udaipur in morning. Halt at Chitorgarh. Reach Udaipur at afternoon.

D4: Udaipur

D5: Go to Jodhpur.

D6: Jodhpur

D7: Go to Jaisalmer.

D8: Jaisalmer

D9: Go to Bikaner.

D10: Back to Jaipur and catch evening flight at 6.55 pm for Kolkata.

Now I have some questions. Please help.

Q1: What may be approx car (Indigo/ Dzire) rent for these 10 days?

Q2: What are the road travel time from Jaipur-Udaipur, Udaipur-Jodhpur, Jodhpur-Jaisalmer, Jaisalmer-Bikaner, Bikaner- Jaipur?

Q3: Is it possible to cover (only fort) Chitorgarh on the way to Udaipur (D3)?

Q4: How would be the weather at last week of November? Do I need AC rooms and car?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

You are trying to see too many places. Either do Jaipur - Jodhpur - Jaisalmer or Jaipur - Jodhpur - Udaipur.

Can you please suggest where from I should approach Ajmer/ Pushkar (as per my itinerary)? I can add 2 more days if required.

I think it is quite hectic. In 10 days you can see all the sights in the respective cities along with a few other day trips near by.

While in Jaipur you can do a day trip to Bhangarh - Abhaneri.

While in Jodhpur you can do a day trip to Osiyan.

While in Udaipur you can do a day trip to Chittorgarh, another day trip for Dungarpur.

While traveling from Jodhpur - Udaipur or vice versa you can see either Ranakpur / Kumbhalgar or both.

While in Jaisalmer you can do a day trip to Tanot and BP 609.

Ajmer is around 130 Km from Jaipur and pushkar is 11 km from ajmer. Jaipur - Ajmer highway is very beautiful and 4 lane.

Hello everyone,

Back from Rajasthan on 8th Dec, 2013. It was a really awesome trip. Below is the final itinerary, whether it help someone. I travelled with my wife and three years old son.

29-Nov-2013: Started from Kolkata at 6:55 am by Indigo and reached Jaipur at 9:05 am. Checked in at Hotel Arya Niwas. Took a car (swift dzire, driver Lal Chand, Cell No. 09829083382) for our whole Rajasthan trip from the hotel and did sight seeing at Jaipur (City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Albert Hall Museum, Sisodia Rani Garden, Galtaji).

30-Nov-2013: Sight seeing at jaipur (Hawa Mahal, Amber fort, Kanak Vrindaban, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort, Jal Mahal, Amber fort-Light & Sound). We have enjoyed most the light and sound show at Amer Fort.

01-Dec-2013: Checked out from Hotel and start for Udaipur via Chittorgarh arround 9:30 am. Reached Chittorgarh at 2 pm. Had lunch there and explored the famous Chittourgarh Fort. Then started for Udaipur and reached there at 7:40 pm. Checked in at Hotel Jaiwana Haveli.

02-Dec-2013: Sight seeing at Udaipur (City Palace, Jag Mandir, Lake Pichola Boating, Saheliyon Ki Bari, Moti Magri, Maharana Pratap Memorial, Vintage Car Museum, Rope Way-Karni Mata Temple).

03-Dec-2013: Started at 9:30 am for Jodhpur via Kumbhelgarh and Ranakpur. Reached Kumbhelgarh and explored one of the finest forts in Rajasthan and the birth place of Maharana Pratap. Then started for Ranakpur and reached there around 2 pm. Had lunch first and then visited the Jain Temple. Then started for Jodhpur and reached there at 7pm. Checked in at Hotel Lilla Vilas Guest House.

04-Dec-2013: Did local sight seeing (Mehrangarh fort, Jaswant thada, Mandore Garden, Umaid Bhawan).

05-Dec-2013: Started for Jaisalmer at 9.30 am and reached there at 2:30 pm with a tea break at Pokran. After lunch started for Khuri. Had a wonderful experience of camel ride there and watched sunset at sand dunes.

06-Dec-2013: Started for Tanot at 9:30 am. Visited the temple maintained by BSF and watched arti. Then proceed towards Longewala, the battle field of 1971. It was a really thrilling and patriotic sentimental experience. Came back to Jaisalmer and had a late Lunch. Then did local sight seeing (Patwa ki haveli, Sonar Kella, Gadesagar Lake).

07-Dec-2013: Started for Bikaner at 9.30am and reached there at 2.30pm. After lunch visited Junagarh Fort (beautiful), Karni Mata Mandir (The Rat Temple).

08-Dec-2013: Started for Jaipur at 9am and reached Jaipur Airport at 4pm. Started for Kolkata at 6.55pm by Indigo again and reached Kolkata at 9.05pm.

Thank you all for your help.

Hi Friends,

I am planning for a trip to Rajasthan along with my family covering Jodhpur, Jaipur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer. My tentative date of starting from Kolkata is 31st January, 2014 and date of returning back to Kolkata (date by which I must reach Kolkata) is February 8, 2014. Would like to request you all to help me with a suitable itinerary along with the details such as accommodation, mode of transport for hotel transfers, sightseeing, costs, etc. Kindly note that we will be a group of 4 adults of which 2 are my aged parents. Also, it will be helpful if you please provide me with a budget itinerary and an idea on the approximate cost for the whole tour.

Thanks in advance!
Regards.

Hi Nehalem,

As per your requirement, you need to travel major part by train and you have to catch night train for with in Rajasthan transfers. But Please keep in mind that Udaipur is neither connected to Jodhpur not to Jaisalmer by train. Udaipur has connection to Jaipur by rail. So you have to hire a car for visiting Udaipur which will take return fare if you do not come back to the origin by car. Now a car for 4 adults if I consider Inova, will come at around Rs 2800/day. You may stay at Hotel Arya Niwas (Jaipur), Ashiyan Haveli (Udaipur), Lilla Vilas (Jodhpur) and Hotel Akashdeep (Jaisalmer). You may check rates - http://www.aryaniwas.com/ , http://www.aashiyahaveli.com/ , http://www.leelavillas.com/ , http://www.hotelakashdeepjsm.com/. But please consider to stay 2 days at Jaipur (don't miss Amer fort light and sound show, this is the best of Jaipur), 1 day each at Udaipur and Jodhpur and 2 days at Jaisalmer. Please visit Tanot and Longewala one morning. You will love it. Also do consider camel cart or jeep and NOT the camel at desert (sam/ khuri) for your parents.

Regard,
Saikat

Thanks Saikat for the information! It will come handy! Let me finalize my plan then and will share the same with you. Thanks once again!

However, can you please help me out in fixing my itinerary in terms of order of places/cities to be visited? Also the mode of transport with the details (such as train name if by train or if by cab, then how long will it take to reach, etc.).

Regards,
Nehalem

Hi Nehalem,

You may consider following itinerary:

Sealdah(13:10) to Udaipur(3:00) (12316 - Ananya Exp, Only thursday)
1 day in Udaipur
Udaipur(22:20) to Jaipur(6:00) (19666 - Udaipur Khajuraho Exp, Everyday)
2 days in Jaipur
Jaipur(23:45) to Jaisalmer(11:15) (14659 Delhi Jaisalmer Exp, Everyday)
2 days in Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer(23:30) to Jodhpur(5:20) (14809 Jaisalmer Jodhpur Exp, Everyday)
1 day in Jodhpur
Jodhpur(20:30) to Howrah(04:00) (12308 Jodhpur Howrah SF Exp, Everyday)

You may visit http://erail.in/ for more options at a glance.

Thought behind this are - 1. Insufficient railway connectivity of Udaipur with other cities (except Jaipur). 2. Spend nights in train to save time.

If you want to make within Rajasthan transfers by cab then travel times are there in my previous post. But please keep in mind that if you take a cab for one city to another city (ex: Jodhpur to Jaisalmer), it will charge return fair also. So if you are thinking to take a cab, take it for your whole Rajasthan tour, i.e. round trip.

In the plan suggested, my suggestion would be to skip Udaipur. You will not be doing justice to the city. Utilize that day in any of the other mentioned cities.
