Dear friends,
How are you all.. Need help again. This winter could manage 10 days and want to visit Golden Temple, Jalianwala Bag,Wagha and places near Amritsar. Thinking about Himachal Pradesh. My mother, wife and daughter will be with me.
Can anyone please help me out my itinerary.
1. Important places to visit near Amritsar.
2. After Amritsar which route to take to reach Himachal Pradesh. Where from to
start ?
3. 5 Nights and 6 Days in Himachal Pradesh.
4. Which place I can cover in 5N/6D knowing the fact that most places in HP are
beautiful.
5. Which route to take while returning to Kolkata.
6. I will prefer train Journey.
I will be moving from kolkata by train and reach Amritsar at night.

Looking forward for your suggestion and feedback so that I can purchase the tickets...Thanks,

1. Along with the places that you have mentioned you can see Durgiana Mandir & Bada Hanuman Mandir and Summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. How many days are you planning for Amritsar. The Wagah border ceremony is held 30 minutes before sun set. In winters as the sun set early do try to reach the border by around 3:00 - 3:30 to get good seats.

2 / 3 / 4. Take a train from Amritsar to Pathankot and then bus / cab for Dharamshala / Mcleodganj. You can also take a direct bus from Amritsar to Dharamshala / Mcleodganj. For the 5-6 days you can see Dharamshala / Mcleodganj / Dalhousie / Khajjiar / Palampur.

5 / 6. Take a train from Pathankot to Howrah. You can also take a bus to Delhi and train to Kolkata.

Thank you Aarosh ji,
This is a great plan. Next time I can visit the other part of HP like Shimla, Kullu, Manali etc.
I will try to take car from pathankot. But where to make my base ? Dalhousie or Dharamshala?
Any suggestion regarding Hotels in Amritsar, Dalhousie or Dharamshala ?
Thanks.

You can make your base as Dharamkot for seeing Dharamshala / Mcleodganj and Dalhousie or Khajjiar for the sights there.

In Amritsar you can consider the accommodation inside the temple premises.

For car check for Narendar's number in this forum. He has been recommended by other members.

For stay in Dharamkot and Dalhousie or Khajjiar check for trip reports where some hotels have been recommended.

Sir due to unavailability of tickets had to curtail trip.
Could be able to reach Amritsar on 27th Dec evening.
28th whole day I can explore Golden Temple, Jalianwala Bag and Wagha.
Now I have with me 29th, 30th, 31st, On 3rd I have to reach Kolkata.
I have few queries before I purchase the next tickets...
1. Will it be enough to cover Dharamshala,Mcleodganj,Palampu r,Dalhousie,Khajjiar and chamba in 3 days.
2. After the Wagha Show can I move to Dharamshala by cab,is it safe to travel at night with family ?
3 I want to catch the morning train 12358 at 5.55, so on 31st night can I move from Dalhousie to Amritsar?

Thanks.

Please don't sir me.

Have you already booked the tickets? Does the train go to Pathankot (PTK / PTKC)? If yes start your trip in the reverse order and leave from Amritsar. Amritsar to Mcleodganj would be around 4 hours by cab. Si travel in the night does not make sense according to me. Sleep will be incomplete, money spent on hotel.

In 3 days stick to Dalhousie and Khajjiar. If time permits include Chamba followed by Palampur.

Exploring more will depend on you skdc14. If you like a particular spot you will spend more time there and then move on to the next spot. If you don't like it then you will move to the next spot earlier. If I were you I would just spend time at one spot or the other and spend time roaming around in Khajjiar.

You should also consider weather condition. It causes considerable delay most of the time due to fog.

You could consider Megha View / Mehar / Kumar at Dalhousie or Shining Star at Khajjiar.

Dear Friends.
I am very disappointed with the fog conditions and the number of trains getting cancelled every day. Under such situation my entire short trip will get spoiled. It is very painful if trains gets cancelled when with family and kids. I have already booked train and hotel.
I don't mind cancelling the tickets if I have better option to spend few days with family in areas where I will not be effected by fog.
Can anyone suggest a trip from Kolkata as I will reach kolkata on 26th Dec morning by flight.
I have visited in and around Vizag, Puri, Digha. Please suggest any other place ..
Thanks.

Maybe Konark and Chilika if you've not been. See TR in my signature for some idea about the place. You may also check for flight to Jaipur as Kolkata-Jaipur sector is somewhat affected by fog but much less than Kolkata-Delhi. From Jaipur, visit Shekhawati.

Doesn't your train by pass Delhi? Fog could be an issue however I don't think the train will be cancelled. There would be a short / long delay though.

Around a decade ago, we had to take an early morning Janshatabdi from Abohar to reach Delhi and then get a Delhi - Mumbai train. The train reached Abohar a couple of hours late however we reached Delhi to catch our train with 45 minutes to spare.
