my husband is trying to arrange travel from Delhi to Beas (near Amritsar) and is still first on the railway waiting list for 23 December. any idea when he should expect to hear he can buy a ticket? i thought he would've heard by now. if he can't get a ticket, I am wondering about hiring a driver. I have heard that the grand trunk highway has gotten busy and is no longer such an efficient way to travel. anyone have experience with this?

Delhi to Beas will take you around 8 hours. The roads are good & convinient. Have been travelling this day in & day out. Jalandhar has this service of return cabs to delhi that work out a lot cheaper so one option could be to come down to Jalandhar & then take the return cab to delhi. Otherwise there are good buses that ply this route.
