Hi friends, let me know if below plan of mine is practical

Sunday morning, start from Darmashala, HP after breakfast
Drive to Amritsar , 200kms, 5 hours
Reach Amritsar by lunch time, lunch,
Visit Golden Temple & Jalianwala Bagh
Head to Wagah Border
Witness evening ceremony
Start driving towards Delhi, reach Delhi by midnight (Will have to reach latest by 2AM)

Pls help me with following:
1) Are there any interesting places worth stopping on the way between Darmashala & Amritsar (may be with few kms deviation)?

2) Is there any opening timings at Golden temple or will it be open all through the day?

3) Is 6-7 hours reasonable time to reach Delhi from Wagah border on a Sunday evening?
I blog at enidhi.net, covering travel, automobile and reviews.

If you start from Wagah border around 6 P.M. It may be difficult to reach Delhi by 2 A.M.
Also from Dharmshala to Amritsar it sometimes take more time.
Golden temple is open throughout the day.

In 6- hours you want to cover 500 Kms. Just think of its possibility.

Thanks. I understand it is tough call. But no point going to Amritsar if we can't witness border ceremony.

Actually I have 8 hours max to cover 500kms (between 6PM and 2AM). By the time I reach Delhi outskirts it will be about 11PM, so I am hoping city traffic will be very low

Can leave little early from Darmashala- may be 7AM to accommodate possible delay

You still think it is not viable? Are the roads bad or is it the traffic?

No I am not worry about traffic in Delhi but the Traffic you face at Jalandhar and Ludhiana. Yes it will be better if you leave Dharmshala at 7 a.m., its give you more time to spend at Golden temple.

After speaking to a friend I reversed my plans..

I am thinking of keeping Amritsar on Day 1 than last day...
Day 0 evening I'll start from Bareilly, UP (where I have some functions to attend), drive through the night and reach Amritsar by Day 1 early morning. Visit temple, JWBagh, rest for sometime, visit Border, drive till Pathankot (150kms, 4-5 hours) and call it a day (Rest at Pathankot)

Day 2 early morning start towards Daramshala (50kms uphill), spend Day 2 and 3 exploring Daramshala and McLeod Gunj

Day 3 afternoon leave for Delhi
Reach Delhi by mid night.

Pls let me know about sounds more sensible

Day 0 and day 1 will be very hactic. You will start from Bareilly in evening, drive whole night, next day visit Amritsar and border without proper rest and again continue to Pathankot!!!! How will you manage? Why are you being enemy of yourself and co-travellers? Travelling is not a race.
I suggest to replan again.

is there any specific reason to go to Dharmshala and Mcleodganj, as you will visit the monastery and other places in half day.
Khajjiar is much better option in terms of scenic beauty.
