I was fortunate to attend the 78th Rural Sports festival at Kila Raipur, Punjab between 30.01.2014 and 02.02.2014. It was extremely cold and foggy and quite challenging for photography. I was overwhelmed at the raw human spirit on display and the depth of strength and courage compelled me to say "Viva Punjab" and "Viva Kila Raipur".Some glimpses for fellow Imikers . Share your thoughts please ...

Actually as it was an assignment ,my sponsors have allowed me only this few images to share as they have the priority right. Only after they have used the images , I will have the right to use them freely.
Anyway , i just give you all a brief sketch of the tour. I boarded the train no 12317 from Sealdah station , along with a friend at about 7.40 in the morning. In spite of heavy fog we reached Ludhiana in about the right time around 3 pm on the next day ( 30 mins late only ) , a remarkable feat given the extremely foggy conditions. From there we hired an auto-rickshaw for Rs.100/= and went to "Hotel Surya" at "Bharat Bhawan Chowk". My Photographer friend Bertrand booked two rooms for Rs.600/= per night on single occupancy. The rooms were moderately clean and quite small. With the equipments we were carrying , it was prudent that we booked one room each. The loos were clean and hot water was available. We promptly went to sleep after having light and pricey supper of chapati and sabzi.

On 31.01.2014 and 01.02.2014

On the morning of 31.01.2014 I got up at 4 AM with eager anxiety :-) . We got ready , had pricey breakfast of toast , omlette and tea at the hotel itself and went to the Main bus stand within 7.30 AM ( before that outside was quite dark ). The cold and fog was intense. Some gentlemen pointed us to the bus-bay ( no.11 ) where the bus to Kila Raipur was scheduled to come. After a seemingly interminable wait, along with some fellow photographers and athletes like hockey players etc., an excuse of a minibus came . The conductor was screaming many names and "Kila Raipur" was one of them. We boarded the bus and it started at 9.30 in the morning. The journey was slow but the bus went through the village roads after sometimes and the scenes of green fields laced with yellow mustards was really captivating . The fare was princely Rs.12/ per head. The distance to Kila Raipur is barely 30 Kms from Ludhiana but the bus stopped more than ran and only after 11 they dumped us to the Kila Raipur village. From there the playing fields were at a distance of 2.5 kms and we walked the distance through paved roads.

Upon reaching there we met people at the "media centre" . Mr.Sukhvir Grewal was at his administrative best and after issuing press cards we promptly ran into the field and for next two days were immersed there. We are thankful that from that point on our regular lunch , pick up from hotel and drop in there as well as endless cups of steaming hot coffee were all so graciously arranged by the committee. It was unbelievable hospitality....
