May be you could go to Narayani Dham temple or Karla caves when you are in Lonavala. You could also try out the different chikkis.

A small taxi might cost you around Rs 1500/- and it should take around an hour and half to reach Lonavala.

Try A1 chikki on the highway. There are way too many maganlal chikki shops to be sure of which one is actually the original one.
Also the fudge is supposed to be pretty good there.
I will let Aarosh handle the taxi part.

Not sure if the prepaid taxi would be willing to go to Lonavala. You could try Ola or other car rentals.

Yes Lonavala chikki is famous. People in interior Konkan also sell chikkis claiming it to be chikkis from Lonavala.

Well then so is the option of taking a bus, shivneri (Volvo) or Shivshahi (Normal A/C) bus. But I think that would be tedious. From Airport you will have to reach either the railway station or the bus stop and then again search for a mode of transport from Lonavala drop to marriage venue.
Taxi would be bit expensive but way more convenient. And all this is in case a pickup is not arranged in the first place.

Are the chikkis from Lonavala different from Matheran? We bought lots of chikkis for our friends and relatives from Matheran and were told it is local made in Matheran!

as it turns out my friend has confirmed she will organise the pickup from pune airport to lonavla. thank you all for your prompt help, advice. i will definitely stock up on chikki/fudge in lonavla. i guess it'll be nice and cool in late december when i go. i am so looking forward to it!

i would love to spend a morning in the osho ashram's garden in pune on my return if possible - i have heard it is beautiful. my father used to go to pune (when it was still known as "poona") for the horse races. i have no idea what else pune is famous for.

There is a lovely thread for places in Pune - will add the link later if required.
But how much time do you have to visit Pune. Suggestions could vary accordingly.
Many things to eat in Pune as well.
