Hello all,
I am arriving in Pune on Jan. 9th in the afternoon. I need to be at the Dhamma Giri Vipassana center at 2:00 pm on the 10th. What are my options for buses and trains? should I spend the night in Pune or go straight to Igatpuri and get a room on the 9th? Also any hotels for under 1,000 INS?
Any help would be great.

How are you reaching Pune?

There are 2 buses in the afternoon from Shivaji Nagar depot as per https://msrtc.maharashtra.gov.in/ind...&submit=Submit

Thanks for the fast response. Sadly my train arrives at 4:00 in Pune on the 9th (too late for the buses). And buses on the 10th don't leave until 4:00. I need to be at the center no later than 2:00 pm on the 10th...any other ideas?

Which train are you traveling on? (I couldn't find any train that reaches Pune at 4 pm).
Does the train travel further to Kalyan? If yes - I would see if I could extend my ticket till that station and get the next train from Kalyan to Igatpuri. Stay at Igatpuri and join the next day.

An option would be continue the journey till Kalyan and then take Panchvati Express till Igatpuri.

Getting to Dhamma Giri Vipassana center

It would be way convenient and comfortable to use the train for Pune to Kalyan unless you have a reason to want to avoid it.

Thanks for the help all,
I was just told by the Vipassana center that I should travel Pune to Nashik and then to Igarpuri
Do government buses (red buses) run every hour from Pune to Nashik, as they do in most Indian cities?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have given you the link for ST buses in the earlier post. Please check that to see the frequency. Do remember that there are 2 major bus stops in Pune proper, Pune Railway Station and Swargate. The Pune Railway station bus stand in walking distance from the station, Swargate would be around 30 minutes by bus (if I am not mistaken the fare is Rs 10/- for the bus ride).

I still feel getting down at Kalyan and then taking the train mentioned in the previous post would be convenient.

The trains in India are always difficult to navigate for foreigners, ticket counters rarely speak English, and having to buy tickets in advance etc. For me, it's so easy to jump on a bus and go. Thanks for the information.
