Lonavala is worth visiting. Only a short distance more is Mumbaii and Elephanta. In the other direction on the rails is Ahmednagar Fort and a fine Museum and more. Just beyond is a tourist mecca of Aurangabad with numerous historical sites around. What are your interests.?

It's closed to the general public as of Jan 13 (under military control). Has that changed? Just curios.

Mahabaleshwar is not so far. Probably around half that distance.

@Debayan - Mahabaleshwar is nice, and yes its around 120 KM from pune. Mahabaleshwar can be covered in a day but you can miss few places.
So what you can do here is, go to Mahabaleshwar early morning DAY 1 spend the day, stay there, see the sunrise and other places left on DAY1, return Back to Pune.

Go to alibagh OR Khashid beach around 90 and 170 KM respectively ...enjoy the water sports... These two things ( Mahabaleshwar and Alibagh( 100Km ) OR Khashid (170KM )) can be managed in 3 DAYS.

If you dont want to push yourself after a tiring journey from Mahabaleswar then opt for 1DAY trip to Mumbai and LONAVALA.

I would suggest Complete Mahabaleshwar in 1 DAY and Khashid beach. ( Kashid is a cleaner beach than Alibagh )

@Bombayboy - Thanks for the rectification.

If you have 2-3 days for the trip, you could include Wai (Mahaganapati Temple and Menavli), Panchgani and Pratapgad along with Mahabaleshwar. Wai will be on the way to Mahabaleshwar. Panchgani is also on the way to Mahabaleshwar. You could also visit Tapola Lake which will be on the way to Satara.
