dear friends

i wish to set up a home for my self, and also rent it out to holiday makers, i am looking for a location, weather should be nice thru out the year, should fall in tourist circuit to ensure steady flow of guests, and at the same time should have basic amenities of a small town, or not very faraway from small town, basically the idea is to setup a charming home with few rooms to let and have the income to make more rooms and setup a nice resort in the long run....

and also put in a small camping area.... woudnt like to run it like a hotel... my guests should feel at home...

or something like a bed and breakfast accomodation setup... not very expensive but comfortable place with a nice ambience and character....

preferably near the mountains....

i have been reading many other threads, but still need your valuable feedback... remember its my hard earned money im going to invest...

pls do write

cheers

My first reaction is Varkala. If you want nice weather all year round (not really possible in India!) that is not too far away from the mountains then I don't think you can beat Varkala. Steady stream of tourists at all levels. Probably only going to get more popular.
Or have it got it totally wrong and you are looking to set up in a completely new area, not before visited by most tourists?

Is getting planning permission and running a buisness the same in all Indian states?

Somewhere along the busy Goa-Kerala route would seem like a good place, both Goa and Kerala have far too many hotels, I wrote the following a while ago about a place near Udupi.

Malpe (Karnataka) Malpe beach isn't much to write home about, however, I walked north from Malpe beach for about 6 kms, then decided to get off the beach and find a road, what I found was perfection, a stretch of land about 2kms long and 50 metres wide, on one side was the sea, on the other were the backwaters, and on the land were locals enjoying normal life, colourful mosques, churches and a Hindu temple that seemed to be dedicated to every Indian god I know, it was one of those days that reminded me why I love India.

What a place for a guest house.

Permission is granted by the nearest town or the district authorities. The OP can also consider Gundalpet area just before Bandipur forest on the way to Ooty.

The problem with this stretch of land is the lack of width. You won't be able to build anything due to the CRZ regulations restricting construction 200 metres from the coast line.

As far as permission and clearance certificates are concerned, different states have different attitudes. Some states do not welcome those who are not locals especially in rural areas. If a person from a rural part of Karnataka goes to a rual part of Maharashtra he is going to have a difficult time getting all the paperwork together.

Hi Goodfriend & Sieaus,

If you're looking for beachside land then the Karwar-Gokarna Stretch on west-coast Karnataka is good. some of those beaches are breathtaking. I believe they are quite expensive tho, as I was looking to buy a piece of beachside land over there myself.
Depends on what your budget is and how big a property you want.
Cheers !
