Hi,

I have a couple of questions regarding moving to India. Although I searched a lot through forums but it only got me confused. I will try to explain my situation and would really appreciate if someone can give me some information.

I am from Poland and I did a 5 year course in Poland in Indian Studies. After completing this, I came to India ( Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi) to do my M.A in Hindi (2 year course). I was on government scholarship from ICCR and came on a student visa.
I have stayed in India for more than 6 months at a stretch and went a couple of time to Malaysia, Sri Lanka etc for a couple of weeks or so. But now since I've completed my course, Im back in Poland.

I am very keen on applying for a job in India within the next few months. And I am also very interested in buying a property in India. Can anyone shed some light on my situation and let me know if its possible?

I appreciate your replies.

Thanks

It is a bit of a minefield.

One has to satisfy, for a start, the residence requirements under FEMA, the Act regulating foreign exchange and investment. This requires 182 days in the previous tax year.

Whilst, emanating out of the politics of Goa, it has been decided that, whatever may have been thought at the time, days spent on tourist visas cannot count towards this. As far as I know, time spent on student or employment visas has not been excluded.

Remember that you have to apply for your employment visa in your home country, after getting the necessary job offer and documentation.

A foreign national resident of India can purchase property. But if you are no more a resident of India, you may not be able to purchase the property in india. If you get an employment offer and resident permit, you can purchase the property
