Hello,

We have a large family that owns a number of properties in India. To conduct our affairs, all co-owners have given General POA to three senior family members. This POA is registered at Mumbai RO. Some of us now want to revoke it.

(1) Is sending a letter with acknowledment of receipt to three POA holders sufficient?
(2) Do we have to forward the letter to the Sub-Registrar's office?
(3) Do we have to post an ad in a leading daily to this effect? As far as we know no documents have been signed under this POA yet.

Thank you in advance for your pointers.

Don’t you think taking services of a lawyer will be better than looking for answers on a travel forum!
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

ya well, you are right about that. But I wanted to know from someone who went through such an ordeal before I have a chance to appoint and meet a lawyer. It is rather urgent.

Roman, do all three. A well worded public notice in a leading newspaper [one in an English language and one in a local language paper] is a must.

Thanks for your reply. After peek-poking around a bit, it seems that we need to file the cancellation deed/letter in the same sub-RO where the POA was registered. It is better if it is done with mutual agreement with the agents. There is no explicit clause in our POA regarding revocability and it is not power coupled with interest to the agent as we all are co-owners of the same properties.
