Hi

I have a vacation of 6-7 days in August mid and want to know what would be the best place to visit in India. North, South, East , West no such preferance. An itinerary would be really helpful if anyone has such an experience....

If you want to visit Hills - Spiti or Ladakh will be your best bet, since all the other hill areas will receive heavy rainfalls during August. But for Spiti/Ladakh 6-7 days will be very less.

If you enjoy the rains, you can visit a few places in Maharashtra, as in Maharashtra rainy season means the tourist season.

Same for Karnataka as both these states have Sahyadri hill ranges which looks absolutely beautiful during monsoon season.

This is my personal opinion, other IMer must have better ideas. But if you are interested for Maharashtra please let me know what kind of places you like, I may be able to help you out.

I went to Mahabaleshwar in August, you can have a look of the same in my blog (link present in the signature)

EDIT - Me and my wife are planning for Ladakh in August 2012 and we are open to 1 or 2 other couples, so if you want to tag along with us, please let us know. Only thing is that our trip will be of 10-11 days so you may need to increase your number of leaves.

Dharamsala, Manali and up to Ladakhand onto Kashmir.
Ideally anywhere up in the mountains to escape the heat and humidity and also somewhre to try and get away from the monsoon rains.

Sweetmurry, you are probably better off to start new thread under the "india itinerary advice" forum

Please tell what you would like to see and what your budget ranges are. And perhaps your entry and exit airports, and the length of stay (not the dates necessarily), so a plan can be made. The dates become important, if you want to include some festivals into your trip.

There are some who want to travel well beaten paths, and some who like wilderness, so knowing a bit about you would help with the suggestions.
