Hello,

Im recently arrived in India for work and plan to do some travelling/ photography at weekends etc.

Two things. I think IM getting lazy in my old age. Especially in the heat I find lugging my Canon DSLR kit with several lens etc a real pain. Also I like doing a lot of 'quick n dirty' street photography. Even on the way to work in the Auto -for this I mostly use my mobile phone which is fine but of course the quality/resolution is sacrificed for convenience.

So Ive been thinking about switching to something smaller/nice n light;
Eg the Fuji X series or Sony Alpha A5000.

Any thoughts on this?

Cheers

M

PS. If any one is interested in partnering up for weekend photography trips then feel free to get in touch also.

DSLR or Mirrorless

Hi Im a brit expat newly arrived in India to teach (design).

Im planning lots of photo trips for the weekends. Maybe its the heat or Im getting old but Im getting a bit tired of lugging my chunky old Canon DSLR + various lenses around. Plus I have been getting really into quick n dirty street photography of late -mostly using my mobile phone which of course means Im sacrificing image quality for convenience etc but hey.

Anyway I was thinkng I may switch to something small n light maybe mirrorless like the Fuji X100 or Sony A 5000.

Any thoughts? Or should I stick with the bigger Beast.

Cheers

M

Ps. If anyone is interested in partnering up for weekend photo jaunts then please get in touch.

You can check this thread as there is a Chennai thread too... IndiaMike Meetups Forum

Perfectly capable system if you are ready to live with 1. higher prices for similar features, 2. nonexistent to very flimsy service support , 3.expedited loss of monitory value for used gear, 4. long waiting time for new exciting releases , 5. over-the-top prices of the accessories ( Think north of 15k for a basic external flash) , 6. Very few sumptuous offerings at 2nd hand gear market and 7. In many cases gaps in lens line.
Note that most of the issues are India-centric.

PS : I tried with Oly and Fuji lines, got frustrated for one or the other of the above reasons , I was trying to "complement" rather than "substitute" the DSLR , and bailed out.
