I have never had a phone that took good photographs, and if it could, then I have never been able to hold it still enough to do so. Without optical stabilisation, I am sunk. Yes, I'd have the ssm problem with an old-fashioned camera, except that they tended to be designed to be held easily.

However, my latest is a leap forward at least. It can, if I manage to hold it still, render a clear face with varied skin tones rather than jpeg blotches

Oh for optical zoom and stabilisation in a phone I can afford! But then, I suppose that good cameras, which didn't have anything else to do, were never cheap.

I still do not have a mobile phone! Never have had one and no plans to get one.

But this is a great thread and I love the bhodrolok joke.

All my photos from my last three trips are from my phone. I think they're great if I do say so myself. They're in my photo gallery so no need to share here.

And none ever picked for Photo of the Month. Go figure.

Beautiful color. My personal observation is that while using the phone camera, often we tend to be much more adventourous and that is so refreshing. The result may not appeal to all but the freedom is unparalleled

Nick,

Subject to the model of your phone, the volume key can be programmed to act as the shutter button. iphone / samsung galaxy / HTC are some of the major makers whose phones can be tweaked in this way. In case of android google has an app for that.

Most phone makers have ignored ease of usage and sacrificed hardware for software. Camera shutter keys are gone from all phones now (including the latest lumia / msft phones - the 4G models are missing a shutter button)

Nice thread Somnath.

Last week I was at Varanasi, took a Boat ride which was supposed to take me across all Ghats. Little did I knew I was about to get stuck in the middle of Maa Gange with heavy Rains, gushing winds and two amateur Boat men, who panicked more than me

Anyway, since the weather was bad, I did not risk taking my hard earned DSLR, so my Samsung mobile came in handy

Probably. Especially as I have a rooted android phone with Xposed Framework, which allows customisation of most things, including those that are usually not.
