Hi all,

I am going to be in Nepal in January then going to India in May/June. I wanted to bring a guitar with me, but I am not sure about that idea. I play mainly electric, so I would probably want to bring one of mine, maybe buy one there (any recommendations?).

I am mostly concerned about bringing my guitar on a plane, when I flew out of Hong Kong, they wouldn't let me take the guitar on because it was too big which made it illegal. I argued that I flew into the country like that, so why can't I fly out?

What kind of cases do you recommend? How do you fly/travel with your instruments?

The only reason I ask, is because by that point in time I will be traveling as a lifestyle, looking for an EFL teacher position- not necessarily in South Asia. I won't be going back to the rest of my gear, kinda wanna have something to play.

Thanks

I've seen many people traveling with guitars/instruments. Most of them bought their guitars in India, bought them specifically FOR the trip, and the (possible) calamities inherent in travel. Have also seen people bringing guitars from home, in hard cases. If you're intent on bringing yours from home, bring it! It'll either make it, or it won't . . . like all those things I bring traveling, I am prepared for whatever happens to it. Safe travels

As Darmabum says, there are no guarantees on keeping anything in one piece while traveling. I wouldn't take a guitar, or anything, that you can't live without. A guitar bought specifically for the trip, that if damaged during travel wouldn't upset you, is a good idea.
