Hi, everyone - I have a slightly different question about shipping. Since I will be working in one location in India for 3 months, I will have a couple of big suitcases. After my rotation is done, I plan on doing some traveling for a couple of weeks before returning home and I want to travel light. Can I ship my suitcases full of work clothes home or will it be ridiculously expensive?

Any other options that you know of? I won't be returning to that city so I can't ask my replacement to hang on to them for me while I am traveling.

I presume that you are traveling on work ? Contact DHL in TX and see what they will charge for door-to-door from India-to-TX.

Why in TX ? You can get a prepay voucher and not deal with the hassle while in India. Or, if your company is big-enough, explore this with your internal worldwide logistics group (Which is what many shipping and mailing departments are calling themselves now a days )

nycank, that's a great idea! I will look into it. My company's "worldwide logistics group" (love that) would probably help me arrange something, but they would also charge me for the service. I'll try and take care of it myself if I can save a little $$, haha!

You are on official work related trip right ? Unless you are a 1099 Contract worker, all this prepay would be inter-departmental billing. Talk to your manager or supervisor. If you are looking to save "little $$" you have not been adequately compensated for this trip.

If your company is big, and there is a lot of international travel by a lot of people; then go talk to your internal C&B (Compensation and Bebefits co-ordinator; typically these folks report either in the HR chain, Accounts Payable, or Internal Travel)

Sheesh !!! I'm doing all this thinking for you for free !!!

Will you fly out of the city that you are presently working in?
Or from a different city?
If it is the same city, you can request a local co-worker to store the suitcases for you.
