We have a domestice flight with Indigo airways. I know that in Europe some of the low cost companies count a woman's shoulder bag or a computer bag as a handbag and don't allow an extra handbag like the regular companies. From Indigo's website I can't make out their policy about this. Does anybody know/had an experience with this issue?

Domestic airlines- including indigo- do not count a woman's handbag as, err, handbaggage, even if it is largish. So you can take another bag on board.
Computer bag- Varies, but they will usually not count this either in handbaggage provided it is not bulky (which may happen if it contains other than computer stuff). A slim looking bag is usually not a problem. I (male) almost always carry a computer bag in addition to a regular handbag and have never had a problem- and I usually fly indigo.

One sees many women with a shoulder bag+computer bag+handbag on domestic flights.
This is computer generated drivel. No signature is required.

Many thanks. Actually my husband also has a small bag similiar to mine for personal stuff (money, passports ) do you think they'll look on it like a lady's handbag or are the men not allowed such a privilege ?

I don't think that should be a problem.

Also have a look at the similar threads at the bottom of the page.

Passengers may carry maximum 7 Kgs per person per flight on IndiGo domestic, i.e., only one piece measuring not more than 55 cm x 35 cm x 25 cm, including laptops or duty free shopping bags.

The dimensions of the checked Baggage should not exceed 158 cm (62 inches) in overall dimensions (L + W + H).

Passengers accompanying Infants are allowed an additional piece of Hand baggage weighing up to 7 Kgs, not exceeding the above size.

Hand Baggage is accepted in the cabin subject to the availability of space in the overhead bin.

Due to airport security regulations, no cabin baggage is allowed on any flights originating from Jammu and Srinagar airports. However, the same can be checked-in including the allowed limit of 15 Kgs. The total weight of the checked-in baggage should not exceed the limit of 22kgs.

Therefore, free Checked Baggage Allowance (applies to adult and child, does not apply to infants): 15 Kgs on Domestic, and 20 Kgs on International except Dubai and Muscat.

For travel to and from Dubai and Muscat -allowance is up to 30 Kgs.

Customer carrying more than the allowed baggage limits will be charged a flat rate of INR 300 per kg as excess baggage fee for domestic travel and INR 525 (or it will be charged as per base currency of reservation) for International travel at the time of check-in.

I used to fly Indigo domestically twice/week for years. Imo they're reasonable for the carry-on and only start enforcing the rules in extreme cases (such as a woman carrying a small suitcase + a 'handbag' that was as large as my carry-on that contains stuff for 3 days and an additional bag filled with snacks so she wouldn't starve during the 1 hour 40 minute flight).

Just behave reasonably and you'll be fine.
