I've had a report from another place that the water in Assam is actually too good. It's "extremely high in iron and other mineral content". It's been suggested I take a portable water filter (sounds a little excessive to be honest).
I'm just putting together a blog post about water and I'm trying to find some corroboration of this.
I've also been told that Dhemaji is currently "disconnected", which I assume means you can't get from the north side of the river to it, but I'm not sure exactly what "disconnected" means. Any information about getting from Dibrugarh via the north bank and the Arunachal Express to Rangiya would be most welcome. We're not going till next year but the more info the better. There are no running status details available for the Arunachal Express, so I'm just assuming it can be about 3 hours late.

Why does a high mineral content make water "too good"?

Is this ground water, water from streams, tap water, bottled water?

well if it's excessively high then I guess it's not too good. I assume he's talking about tap water.

You need to treat tapwater before you can drink it.

As for minerals, portable water treatments will not necessarily filter out minerals - which is a term that includes a wide range of dissolved matter.
