Hi,

I, along with a group of friends are planning to visit Lakshadweep late April. We are basically nature enthusiasts and don't mind sacrificing on luxury. I had the following questions.

1. Do I have to go through an agency like SPORTS? We just want to go there in a ship and arrange everything on our own.

2. Is Late April a good time to visit?

3. What are water activities I can do there? Can I book them from my hometown (Bangalore) or online?

If anyone of you guys who have the lakshadweep experience, could suggest an itinerary, it would be AWESOME! Thank you so much in advance...

Cheers,
Harish

1)I have never heard of people arranging their own visits. For Bangaram you can go through various agencies including CGHEarth or Lacadives. For most of the other islands it is usual to go through SPORTS who arrange the watersports on the islands and I beleive the accommodation. Even if you book through another agency you will end up using the SPORTS facilities.
2)Late April is fine
3) Scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, glass bottom boats, kayaking are available. Check out SPORTS website.
SPORTS arrange different itineraries so again check them out.
Travelling on your own, if possible, would be difficult to arrange as inter island ferries can be erratic.
I think you are stuck with SPORTS who do offer good packages.

Thanks Clive!

hmmmm...ok, guess I'll have to opt for SPORTS.

Any idea if we need to experienced in diving, i.e possess some sort of certificate?
None of us have ever dived before!

Thanks again...

There is a short course for beginners. You will start in a lagoon depending on which island you are on to get you confident and to learn all the safety aspects. Then you will have a dive or two out on a reef. Qualified divers should take their certificate with them as proof. Many people learn how to dive in the Lakshadweeps and it is a great experience.
