Is it possible to travel downstream by local boats from Dibrugarh, with stops en route. Perhaps bus connections too

Did a hop on hop off trip on the Yangtse some years ago.

Sorry I am not into 'organised' sanitised cruise boats. As usual I have done a search with out much success, surely some intrepid travellers can advise

Trip planned for late Feb/March 2011.

There have been some reports here on doing it at least part of the way; search around some more. However,

that's just what it looked to be, way above my budget in any case. Sorry. So "local" boats as such, no idea. Wouldn't really hold my hopes up on it (doesn't appear to be all that widespread in India, depending on how intrepid one really is, perhaps); but then who knows and we may hear some affirmation of the same. Would be very nice if we did.

... Namely, someone reported on it here in 2007: http://www.indiamike.com/india/cross...56/#post334960.

Thanks

I am not that intrepid! Reading some more on the river it seems that there are not many mooring points for bigger boats, and due to the rains the river shoals and sandbanks move each year.

All the 'cruises' look far too sanitised for my tastes, not to mention the costs!
