Rajasthan- areas less touristy
I am spending a month in Rajasthan in Dec/ Jan with my other half.

Whilst planning our journey, we're looking in to getting off the tourist track. No specifics as to what we want to do, but just enjoy the Indian experience.

Any recommendations for staying in less touristy areas, and anything to try, or avoid?

Many thanks, IMers!

You could check out Dungarpur near Udaipur, Khichan near Jodhpur, Jhalrapatan near Jhalawar, Bijaipur near Chittaurgarh, Bharatpur (Deeg Palace), Shekhawati region.

Going 'off-the-beaten-spots" is well worth the effort...the unexpected is most exciting!!, and away from the maddening crowd!!

As we're going in December it's going to be very touristy, I think? So we want the option to get out of that :)

Kolayat near Bikaner is another nice place.

"Kolayat is an historical centre of pilgrimage where the Vedic sage, Kapila is believed to have shed his body under a Peepul tree. Kolayat has a series of marble temples, sandstone pavilions and 52 ghats - bathing places - built around a large artificial lake which never goes dry".
