We (me, husband, two daughters of age 3 and 8) want to spent the 31st night within India (tentative dates: 25 Dec-1st Jan).

Because of the age of our daughters, we can think of a overnight train journey. Flight tickets will be out of our budget.

I am confused between many places:

1. Mahabaleswar (we two have been to this place but not our daughters)
2. Ooty (reaching the place is making it difficult, it calls for long journeys)
3. Uttarakhand (via Delhi)-Nainital and others. Not sure about the weather, will it be too cold for the kids!
4. HP (Dalhoussie and Mcleod)

Anyone have any suggestion?

Puri is a good destination for families. Warm weather and close by with plenty of culture and fresh food to enjoy.

Not sure what you already decided about your upcoming Puja vacations (in another thread, regarding a visit to Darjeeling), but how about Gangtok in Sikkim for New Year's Eve ?

We are going to Darjeeling during Puja. Gangtok we have visited last summer.

Our preference is some cold place, but not too far away, where the roads will not be blocked due to snow falls.

Our main queries are as follows:

A. Travelling time /Time required for the following path:

1. Dalhousie to McLeodganj
2. McLeodganj to Solang

B. Weather condition of each place

C. Accommodation at HPDTC or other? We do not want to stay in a busy area.

D. Is the plan is hectic considering kids?
