Often I think to escape from this monotonous life. This year I have decided to go some where in monsoon. But don't know where will I go. I want to go some off beat place where I will be alone, accompanied by rain, lush green nature...

My budget will be Rs.10,000

Can anyone suggest that dream destination.

It helps if you tell from where you will start

Re: An unknown destination in monsoon

Great. I have ventured out to many places during monsoon and have felt that too remote and hill areas should be generally avoided because of land slides and road blockades. Such uncertainties have ruined many well planned outings. For monsoon my most favorite area is Kerala and / or Hampi, Gokarna area. The infrastructure over there is good enough and beauty incomparable. Explore and you will have many more ideas.
For shorter duration trips, Varanasi during monsoon is great but often it gets flooded and water logged. I dream about going to Mandu in monsoon but that is yet to happen.
Regards
Somnath

Re: An unknown destination in monsoon

Two most important rejoinders... MEGHALAYA and SUNDERBANS. both, though different in possible duration, are just amazing in monsoon.
Cheers

Actually.... The list is endless

Thanks Somnath for your suggestions. But I know still there are many monsoon places kept hidden in your memory. Please explore this. I can contribute 9 days in this journey.

Thanks
Arpan

Re: An unknown destination in monsoon

Arpan, now an idea is starting to form. Please tell about what do you want to do. Do you want to stay at a place and explore deep or you want to move on and travel wide? Do you want to have a trek and camp or will settle at a place and take small walks around? Would you like to meet local people and interact with them or want to be in absolute seclusion? Would you like to do some photography, painting, reading or will spend the days idly in nature? Your inputs will be very important because I'm also asking similar questions to myself. A most interesting thread and many friends will join shortly, I hope
Cheers
Somnath

dear Arpan

are you travelling alone or with your family ?
i meant to ask is there any child travelling along ?
if not, i will still suggest mountains.
avoid travelling to sikkim, as most of the land slides happens there, i will suggst dhotrey-tonglu-sirikhola.

Hi Alok,

Thanks for suggestion. I have heard from many IM friends that Goa is lush green during monsoon and it's cheap too. But can I get nature close to me? Or simply sitting in sea shore observe the pulse of sea. Please suggest.

Dear Somnath,
You have asked very tough questions. I am also asking these questions to myself. I often ask to myself who am I? Where have I come from? Where will I go? I don't know past, don't know future. Only having foggy present. I want to search these answers in nature. I don't want to be ordinary tourist. However these are my feelings and don't want to make any body bore. I want to stay at a place, go into deep, enjoy rain, enjoy greenery, enjoy sea waves,
Enjoy aimless walking, enjoy rainy night and many more. Do you know such places.

Hello Arpan,

The financial year-end work is killing me hence can't being too regular in replying. One place I have not been at all is GOA and I have planned a Goa trip ( mostly off the beaten trail places ) this puja. Now the puja , as you know , is in the early part of October, so I will catch the tail of monsoon ( I hope not a very fat bushy tail ) . I have done some homework and hope to start a thread seeking tips from old Goa hands by this weekend. Perhaps that thread will be of some assistance for you.

regards

Somnath

Listen to the weather report - make your calculation and go to a seaside middle of a week, south of kolkata on any of the riverside destination on another and somewhere between Jhargram and Jamshedpur.
To answer so many question Himalayas are good(monsoon is not the time though) mainly because nobody blocks telephone signals better than big mountains
