Looking for partners to travel in Orissa April 2011
I am travelling to India in April and spending 17 days withExplore trekking in Sikkim/Darjeeling area.I will return to Calcutta after and want to go to Orissa for 10-14 days(flexible)I will be on my own as will have left the group.I have not travelled in India alone before and would prefer someone else to share expenses etc.I was thinking of flying to Vizag, getting train to Koraput and staying in that area for a few days getting a guide to take us around to Tribal villages and markets.I am happy to trek or camp and do not want luxury(!)I would be really pleased to hear from anyone who would like to do the same thing at that time and we could meet in Calcutta or Vizag.I am a little worried about travelling there alone.Does anyone know if it is risky having a sleeper carriage on trains when alone? Also I was thinking of arranging tribal tours with hotels etc in Koraput/Jeypore as it is much cheaper and less commercial.I don't want to book with expensive Bhubaneswar or Puri companies and be taken to very touristy areas.Any advice appreciated. Thanks,Julie

Trains in sleeper class are safe. Trains are the best way to reach Bhubaneswar from Kolkata - lots of overnight and day trains from Howrah. Spend a day or two at Bhubaneswar/Puri/Konark for sightseeing and then catch the overnight train to Koraput. Use a local agency for hiring a car/guide to take you around in the tribal area. Take the same train back to Bhubaneswar or alight at Visakapatnam and travel down the coast to Chennai.
Warning: Temperatures in April will be hot!

Temp in Koraput will be ok in April and the Atithe Bhavan is probably the best budget hotel and well positioned at the foot of the Jaganath Temple. It has connections with the tribal agencies so they can arrange. Go through Koraput.nic website to get links.
