Hi,

Can someone please suggest a good residential area in Yerawada? I am relocating to Pune & my office will be located at Panchshil Tech park, Yerawada.
Also, what would be the range for renting a 1 BHK apt? I would ideally like to stay at a place close to my office that is also easily accessible & has atleast necessary stores/grocery stores nearby. (I dont drive).

There are a lot of good threads on moving to Pune, but I couldnt find any suggestions around Yerawada, so any help will be great.

Thanks,
Roshni

Hi Roshni

First of all, welcome to Indiamike and Pune.

You can opt to stay at one of the below places which are very close to Yerawada.

Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar, Yerawada itself, Shashtri Nagar, Kharadi, Wagholi.

All these places are within 10 Km radius of Yerawada and have ample public transports (buses, shared autos, autos) for commuting. Also the necessary amenities are available.

You can easily get rented accommodation in all of the places listed above. IT will depend on your preference and budget. For example , Viman Nagar and Kalyani Nagar will cost you more where Kharadi will cost you less.

You can get 1 BHK within 5000 - 10000 as per your preference like -

Furnished/Unfurnished
Area you select
Single/Shared accommodation

The company which I work in has an intranet where the employees post such details related to accommodation availability. Check if you have such faclity. That should be a good starting point.

I also know a broker whom you can call and get an accommodation arranged at any of the places mentioned above. Let me know if you need his number.

Saugata has pretty much summed it up so I wont spend writing the same stuff in different words

Hope you have read this

I will only add - Viman nagar should be a good option as it will provide easy commute(6 seater/buses/rics) on the nagar road.
The other areas like koregaon park/kalyani nagar would mean only opting for rics, some part of kalyani nagar might have access by 6 seaters.

Kharadi/mundwa too might be a little difficult by 6 seaters and if you find 6 seaters /buses plying you will have to do some amount of walking either ways.

My point is more from a commute if you do not have a vehicle or someone to give you a ride to work.

If I were you I would think of Viman nagar as a very likely place to live in. Kalyani nagar, koregaon park to follow and not look further

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

Saugata, can I get a 1 BHK at Viman Nagar/Kalyani nagar within Rs 10K? Would this be a furnished one?
My new office does not have any such intranet, but if you can let me know of any pointers, I will greatly appreciate your help.

New_Traveller, commute is a big concern of mine (& safety of the locality too, but I think Pune is as safe/unsafe as Mumbai!).
About the 6 seater, is it a common mode of transport in Pune?

Thanks to both of you once again for your detailed suggestions!

Forgot to mention that I dont mind walking (20 - 30 mins) as a mode of transport too, so would Kharadi/mundwa be good options? What would be the rents there?

Thanks.

I don't think kharadi or mundwa make sense from any point except cost, if it were lower.

Six seater are convenient where the local government bodies fail to provide adequate transport facilities, a 30 minutes walk is doable for a mumbaiker but do keep in mind - the pedestrian is the most ignored entity on pune streets.
Safety should be a concern, viman nagar, kalyani and koregaon park are pretty safe. Just be street smart.

Will check with a friend on the rates of viman nagar and update you.

I used to come everyday to Kalyani Nagar by Six Seaters from Kharadi. From Kharadi there are six seaters plying whole day and till pretty late of the night on the Kharadi - Yerawada route. But as new_traveller mentioned, it may require some walking, but not more than 10 mins in my opinion.

Pune is - in my opinion - safer than Mumbai, in some aspects, but you have to be careful everywhere in the world to survive, so that's applicable for Pune as well.

As you mentioned, commuting your main concern, I would also agree with new_traveller, you should stay in KN or VN.

You can get 1BHK within 10K but it may be unfurnished, as I mentioned KN and VN are a bit costly place.

When are you coming to Pune? Will you be okay to share the apartment with some other girls (1-3)? If yes, please let me know, I can give you some contact points, from my office intranet around KN/VN area.

Thanks so much for your inputs, I greatly appreciate your help!
I searched craigslist & sulekha, it seems that I may be able to find something from 10K-15K, some apts come furnished. I am moving to Pune on this Monday (19th), I will be put up in our office guest house for 10 days, which I think should be enough time to find an apt.

Saugata, it would be a great help if you could give me some contact numbers of girls looking for roommates.

Thanks,
Roshni

No offence to Craiglist or sulekha but companies internal classifieds are a good source to find roomies and shared accommodation. Your budget will also be a determining factor on the locality.

Roshni,

I have with me quite a few contact numbers of accommodation needing female roommates from my office intranet. But I don't want to post the contact numbers in an online forum.

Since we can not exchange private messages between us as you haven't reached the number of 10 posts yet, please can you drop an email to me?

My email id - saugata41@gmail.com

Regards

Hello everyone. Im a teacher of Indian origin from uk, would be in India next month and hoping to stay in Pune for a month or two to explore the area before I move on to the other parts of India. Would like some information on the following, please:
Does anyone know of any good private schools, particularly primary & other places, such as call centres where I can put my skills to good use and earn some decent salary.
A good decent 1 or 2 bedroom apartmetns for rent.

Do you have any location preference. I know a few around Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, Kharadi but would be good if you tell us your location preference.
