School years compared to UK

A long shot whether anybody will be able to offer advice on this but here goes.

My son will be starting Pathways in September (a month late but we wont be there until then) in year 1. However he was due to move into year 2 in the UK. It's because his birthday is the end of June and the cutoff dates are different between UK and India. I appreciate there is a different between the IB curriculum studied at Pathways compared to the UK curriculum but how much of a difference will there be. We don't want him to go back a year. Is it worthwhile asking the school to let him join in year 2?

Hopefully a kind parent with a child at pathways will be able to give you a definite answer! my suggestion would be to talk to the admissions officer and find out. It may be that year two is already fully subscribed....

good luck

Hi Andrew ,

I'm in the same situation ... I'm moving from hkg to Gurgaon by August and I have applied for pathways my son is almost 6 and finished his year 1 in an Ib school in hkg... we have been offered a place for him in pathway in year 1. They told us that the age critetia for year 1 is 5.5 to 6.5 year and the educational system in India is 12 year i/o 13 year anywhere else ... We are trying to get cirriculumn from our hkg schools and compare it with the school in hkg... Btw are you looking for the new Pathways in Gurgaon or the existing school in Aravali ?

Hope to receive a reply from you
Cheers

Hi,

We have applied to Pathways Aravali. They seem to be keeping quiet about Gurgaon. Is it actually open yet?

A friend of ours has just seen the Gurgaon campus as he has moved from US with his children due to start in Gurgaon campus. He says ,their show classes are ready but will get but still need a lot of construction . will go an check it out once we get there ...
Have you checked out the Aravali campus .... How was the drive to the school...
We did manage to get the cirriculum from Pathways and it is a lot different from the HKg year 1 .

Btw I just saw a few more post of yours would you be working with PwC? As my husband is also going to move with PwC in Gurgaon

Thanks

Yes we did visit Aravali. The campus is great. The journey was about 40 minutes. Not ideal but nothing is I think. The only option would be the British School in Delhi which would probably be even longer.

No not PwC. Although PwC are dealing with my immigration application!

An exact curriculum match is not important - generally it's best to place children with their age mates. They adjust fairly quickly to differences in material taught. Feeling comfortable socially is vital to settling in to a new school environment - and no child feels comfortable when placed with children of a different age and maturity level.

That's a very good point. We all to often try to make our children grow up too soon!
