Hi there,

Probable relocating opportunity to Gurgaon with my husband and 2 cats. I am from India but have not lived there for over 10 years and certainly know nothing about this area. Also my husband is from Europe. Have checked at various websites but wanted to get some feedback from the expats living there currently,
1. Accommodation- around golf course road? seems semi-furnished with loaded kitchen for around 3BHK 70k. Parsvanath Exotica, Park Place, Vipul are some places in mind.
2. Hearing scary things about electricity. Whats is the average cost like?
3. Average cost for maids spending 3-4 hrs day cleanning and help in cooking
4. Average mobile/cell bills for smart phones say with 1 GB data plan.
5. and most important anybody there with pets? cats? Are there any stores in Guragon and do you find clumping litter there? I have automatic litter boxes but I need clumping litter for it to work. what kind of cat dry/wet food available? My cats are on IAMS right now.

Really grateful for any help I can get from anybody on any points

Electric supply is absolutely erratic in Gurgaon and that is why all residential complexes have diesel generators. Before renting do check how much power the generator back up provides. In many places the generator provides limited back up power so in summer you may not be able to use your aircons.
A maid will cost you about ten thousand bucks.
I have seen pet shops in Gurgaon.
See if you can stay in Delhi and work in Gurgaon. Dwarka is one colony in Delhi which is close to Gurgaon. Civic aminities like electric supply, public transport, security are all much better in Delhi.

Thank you jyotirmoy for your help. I have not yet explored Delhi but will have a look now the possibility. I would be possibly working US time so not sure how far I should be able to stay from work. Is there residential areas in Dwarka of similar standard as curerntly available in Gurgaon? I would imagine they would be lot more expensive.

Regarding power backup, residential areas I have looked up says 100% power backup but nothing to be taken for granted. So I think I will have to clarify.

The residential areas in Dwarka are cheaper than Gurgaon plus because of almost 24X7 power availability you don't have to pay for expensive diesel generator back up.
100% back up is often a vague statement. Ask the agents or property owners about how many KVA's of back up power will be made available for your consumption. Summer is harsh here and you will certainly need to run aircons from April to October. Also take in to account that there is practically no public transport facility in Gurgaon so you must have access to a car & driver for all your venturing out of your gated accommodation complex.

Recently explored a 3 BHK with servant quarters and power back up for 35K on Golf course road. Society called Galaxy Apartments. Very decent. Near Dell Office.
