Hi friends,

I have been recommended a house help through a Canadian Expat who has been living in Delhi for 3 years. The lady is her driver's sister. She speaks fluent English and has worked extensively with foreign families for about 20 years. She asked for a monthly salary of Rs. 15,000 for a full day I.e l.l - Saturdayll 9-6pm. She would clean the house, cook, shop for us at the local markets and look after the children when requested.

Is this a fair salary or too high? The local area helper who has been helping me out part time said in order for her to go full time for us she would cost Rs. 7000. .l.l.l@Her cooking is ok but cleaning wise she isn't that well trained and would need guidance however, she only speaks Hindi. I just find the gap between the two pretty big, ofcourse keeping in mind that the recommended one speaks fluent English and has 20 years work experience but just want to ensure this is the going rate.

Thanks.

Perhaps thats the main reason for asking 15k... may be you can ask for bargain. There is always a difference in "asking" and "settling" price in India.
