Where should I rent in Chennai?

Hi everyone, I will move to Chennai next month to work for Tata (TCS.) I would like to live very, very close to the job and also in a nice, safe area.
I am on my 20s, I am a woman and I am moving by myself. I have made some research but I am not sure of the areas where it is best to live around tcs. I will not be able to buy a car or would not like to use public transportation, my time there will be for 1 year.

I hope you guys can help me!

Oh and something else.. Could you advice me about the types of clothes I should take to Chennai? To work and also to be socially adequate. I come from the US.

Do you mean Here?

Have they mentioned anything about transport? They may possibly provide it by either cab or coach. Otherwise, on the face of it, your statement means you want to live within walking distance of your office. That's probably possible, but I have no knowledge of accommodation availability or cost in that area. It is quite a long way out of the city centre.

Welcome to IndiaMike :)

TCS ladies normally wear smart trousers/office-skirts and blouses/shirts. Formal stuff, unless you are backroom staff. You can also wear 'salwar kameez' if that suits you better and certainly they are great for socialising. For social evenings, anything goes, really, depending on your crowd.

Hi Masa

Welcome to Indiamike. :) You'll find there's no dearth of fellow travelers in India or indeed on Indiamike. The site's standing cautionary thread about finding travel partners online is here - http://www.indiamike.com/india/india-travel-partners-f59/women-men-looking-for-travel-partners-t16059/

jalomm, welcome to Indiamike, however, with so few posts I don't think you can send or receive private messages yet.

which is probably a good thing as vishva advised: don't be too quick on sending your exact address to people you don't know.

Yes, do please get the final office address, without which no-one can help much. Also please find out what the usual travel arrangements are for your job, and how they intend to accommodate you from your first day of arrival and if they offer any in-house assistance with finding more permanent housing.

I bet we must have some TCSs employees on the membership. but only chance would bring them to the thread. Maybe TCS could be mentioned in the title. The moderators can help change that.

Without giving away any personal details or locations (apart from the office location), please give as much detail as you can: there are lots of Chennai IndiaMike members. You might like to come and meet some of us next time we have a meetup!

Mod note: As other members have said, jalomm, please be careful when giving out any personal information to strangers online. If you would like your office location to be added to the thread title when you know it, you could bring it to our attention using the button. That button is also available on private messages (which you will be eligible to send and receive when you have been a member for 10 days and made 10 posts) so if you receive any inappropriate PMs please use the button to report them to the moderating team.

Welcome to Indiamike :)
