I thought I'd share some insight into airfreighting things to Chennai International Airport. My husband and I shipped five boxes via airfreight (from Thailand) to Chennai. We went to pick up our boxes and ended up spending four hours waiting for our boxes to be located. While we were waiting, we witnessed how freight was unloaded and reloaded after customs clearance. We saw boxes dropped from heights of three or four meters. We saw teetering trolleys of boxes marked "fragile" tip over and the contents literally bounce. My friends who were waiting outside for us saw pallets of boxes literally crammed into trucks much too small for the size of the load, thus compressing all boxes by at least four or five centimenters This may well be the way airfreight is handled throughout the world--I can only speak for the Chennai Airport. So, if you send things here via airfreight, pack them extremely well!We only airfreighted clothes and bedding, so we were fine, but clearly there were others who were not so lucky!
