Hi there,

I will probably relocate to Chennai. I'm currently in Chennai for an onsite visit in order to investigate if Chennai would be a suitable place for me to live at. I will spend only a couple of days here.

Would also like to see what apartments here would be like.
Would be working in DLF IT Park and I assume that an appartment nearby that would be the best choice for the beginning.

Any suggestions how to get that managed?

Thanks in advance!

Hi - I am just back from a similar trip to chennai myself - I met with a company called global adjustments who showed me a number of apartments but also met with Abdul from Prime Locators (search in google) who also showed me apartments.

I am sure there are plenty of others and the experts will be along sometime with better advise

good luck!

There are plenty of agents. Global adjustments filled a niche market in providing services, including property, exclusively for ex-pats. Whilst I don't know of any other such companies (but I haven't looked) it is some years now since Global adjustments created their business, so I wouldn't be surprised if they now have competition.

The thing about Global adjustments: they cater to the international corporate market, and have prices to match. If that is ok with you, then Google will guide you to their contact details. After that, a phone call would cost you ... errr ... the price of the phone call only! They were kind enough to pass on a couple of recommendations about other things, for me, when I moved here in 2005, as advice given for free.

Yesterday I went with Global Adjustments for a viewing tour. They have shown me several apartments and it was a good experience. And the best is that they do not charge you for that look and see service.
Actually I'm not their target audience as I wouldn't come with an expat package and couldn't afford such apartment rents. My purpose was to get an insight only and therefore it was perfect.

So, next step for me is to discuss the job description and to negotiate the compensation package with the potential employer ... I already grabbed lots of information out of the forum. It's really fantastic that people share their experience :-)

Thanks again for your support.

Thanks again for your help.

Anitha - Manapakkam is ver near to DLF and the Flats price are good. Not too high. Also Mugalivakkam is also a good place - very near to DLF. If you are looking for rent try Sulekha website for rentals.

Hi Anitita,

We were there last week for a preview/housing search trip and had one day with Global Adjustments. They were indeed very knowledgeable and helpful. I tried Sulekha for our house search but did not get any good responses there. Another thing to consider is the flow of traffic during the morning and evening rush hours. For example even if U choose a place near work, U may be stuck in the morning if U are going in the same direction of everyone else. (E.g. the IT Corridor on OMR, and on ECR)

Good luck!

Thanks to all of you for the very helpful information!
Meanwhile plans have changed. I accepted a position in Bangalore now. Just arrived a couple of days ago and now I am struggling to get all the required documents for the registration at FRRO ...

And again I must say that this forum provided the crucial information to find the right starting point. Let's see how get through ;-)
