Hi Everyone,
I am not an expat. I am a Mumbai guy who has got a new job here in Paypal India Development Center, Shollinganallur. I have been assigned a guest house here. I have to shift here along with my family. Frankly I am in a bit of a culture shock here, the infrastructure here is pathetic and the heat is terrible. OMR has few apartment complexes but my concern is scarcity of grocery shops, malls nearby. I have come across an apartment in Akshaya Adena(Siruseri) with 10k rent. But I am having second thoughts about renting it. People are advising me to rent an apartment in Thiruvanmiyur/Tambaram/ Thoraipakkam area. My budget is around 8k-11k and the apartment should have security, car parking and 24hrs water, besides having proximity to grocery stores. Please advise me regarding this issue as I need to search for an apartment in the next 10 days.

Development of Siruseri had just been announced when i stopped working at a company located on the OMR, so dont know it much. Why do you not want to rent there? academically speaking!

My last time on the OMR there was quiet a bit of activity on the stretch upto the life line hospital where i took a turn off the omr. Velachery is a ways off but you should get pretty much every thing there.

Of the locations you have been mentioned

Thiruvanmiyur - Likely to be way more expensive than the flat at siruseri

Tambaram - have you traveled there yet? its a little further than id want to travel (though closer than i used to travel when i commuted to the omr everyday)... but if you are used to a sururb - town commute in mumbai you will feel right at home.

Thoraipakkam - Maybe if you can stand the stench (if the dump is still around). It was expensive back in 2008 and it will be more so now. The Thoraipakkam high road connects to the GST road through a flyover across the railway line. On the same road before the flyover you will get areas like kilkatiali on the right and kovilambakkam on the left, there will be other areas the names of which i cant remember. check these out.

Across / along the GST road is also a possibility. Before the flyover the railway crossing would take forever. I wont say the flyover wont be congested but traffic should still move rather than sit still for over half an hour.

For perspective tambaram is further down the GST road.

have you checked out the rates in these areas? or traveled to them?
meh...
