Hi All

I've just arrived in Chennai - well about 4 weeks ago so I'm a bit late at getting onto the web and seeing if there's any expat stuff going on.

So far my time has been pretty much filled with finding an apartment, registering at the immigration office, opening a bank account, organising an India tax number and finding out how to buy alcohol - no one warned me how difficult that last point would be!

Anyway, now I can focus on the job I'm supposed to be doing out here along with figuring out what expats do in their spare time.

The place I'm going to be living has a gym, pool etc but there's only so much of that stuff you can do. - So can anyone help and let me know what else happens and how you can become involved.

Cheers

Paul

No idea (and welcome to IndiaMike ), but as far as IM itself is concerned, do check out this thread (scroll to the end of it): http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...meetups-t8724/

Well, yes, I'm here, but I only ever meet ex-pats at IM Meetups, if they come along, and I know nothing about ex-pat groups, so I didn't think I could be very helpful on this one.

Mach has given the link for the thread for our occasional meetups.

But, PJG... Welcome to the site, and welcome to Chennai. Do feel free to tell us a little more!

I don't know what your nationality is, but there is a British club, which is open for citizens of the UK and countries of the commonwealth. You can find more info on www.bbscchennai.com.

The Leather Bar in the Park is also a popular place for expats to hang out.

Thanks for the advice

Hi All

Many thanks for all the advice so far - I have been to the Leather Bar a couple of times and that was good. Is the BBSC still up and running? The website looks a little out of date. Anyway, I've dropped the contacts an email so I'll see what happens.

I've heard there is a 'club' (not entirely sure what to expect) called Pasha at the The Park hotel where the Leather Bar is located, however I didn't see it when I was there the last couple of times. - Does anyone know where it is and do you have to be a member etc?

Cheers again!

OK, I'm gonna ask - I mean it would amaze me if true - but who knows, India IS changing - so is this Leather Bar, a "Leather" Bar ? as in male gay BDSM stuff ?

Have you tried asking for it when you were there?

Yes, the BSCC is still up and running, and from what I hear pretty active (mostly with drinking ).

No, Leather Bar is not a men's club... I don't know where the name comes from, but it is just a regular bar.

And yes, there is a club called Pasha at the Park. If you come out of the main entrance, and go to the left, there is a yellowish building, which you reach through a small lane. That is Pasha. It is quite small, so it gets crowded. But it is a good club.

I suspect the answer is very boring and to do with upholstery.

But did you every try their Rubber Bar?

Nick has a hidden side, all this knowledge about their Rubber Bar ??!!

And you don't need membership for Pasha. But like any place in Chennai, try to get a girl to go with you. It will make entry a whole lot easier.

Oh. I didn't stay long. I had mistakenly dressed for a feather-fetish party ---and I felt so out of place!

You could try 10 downing Street. Also I know on the 3rd wed of every month a bunch of expats meet up for darts. I could put you in touch with those people.

But to buy liquor, you can try Amma Nana. Ask in the meat section upstairs. You can buy beer and other. But for a price. And the place next to that Fairlands, you can buy french Wine and other. Or just ask the Fairlands guy for a broker, then they can deliver to your house, hassle free.
