4G is launched. Its only available in Bangalore, Kolkatta, Pune and Chandigarh, may be others have been added. Other operators I am not aware. I am not aware if iPhone 5 or 5S is compatible on the Airtel 4G network.

As a follow-up, I've secured a nano sim for my 5S with Aircel given no leading candidate for 4G/LTE has emerged in Chennai. If in time we see 4G/LTE popping its head up in Chennai then I'll re-assess.

Most places that do not yet carry nano sim cards DO have a pair of sharp scissors and an employee with a confident, unerring eye.
