Hi All,

I am supposed to shift to Chennai next month and am petrified at the thought of landing there without an accommodation,,without any knowledge of Tamil(except for vanakkam ) and without any friends or relatives who can guide me there.

Since the shift is work related, i wish to find an apartment/flat somewhere near the Ambattur Industrial Area. Also if any one can answer me as to what kind of approximate expenses one can incur for a living there.

While researching i noticed that many non-residents of chennai do not have good things to say (heat, water issue, traffic woes, muggers, language issue, food issue,etc)....But i wish to fall in love with Chennai as my work will make me stay there for a year...So kindly give me reasons as to why and how i should fall in love with Chennai !!HELP !!:confuse d:

Don't worry too much about what the non-residents say. I'm not saying it isn't true, but don't you have all those issues in Delhi too?

The traffic. I think that the traffic is infinitely worse but...

a) I've only spent four days of my life in Delhi

b) Everyone in India seems to like to claim that their city has the worst traffic; maybe I'm doing the same

It's unlikely that he thinks Delhi has issues with language and food!

True!

I can't advise on areas in that district: it is a long way away from me. Anna Nagar is near, but probably a bit on the expensive side.

ambattur is an industrial area, you may be better off with mogappair which lies between anna nagar and ambattur and is a residential area.

Expenses.... well in my opinion any place is as expensive or cheap as you want it to be. and i think mogappair should have 1bhks in your range.

Great. Welcome to the city.

Be aware that, in the night, the beach is the domain of the fishing folk, and, after a hard night's drinking, things can be a little rough. I don't know; just passing on advice my wife (lived here most of her life) tells me...
