Hi I was going to get some rupees at the shop here in USA but I have read it's illegal so I will have to do that in Bombay when I land at the airport.
The problem is, I have $300 cash USD on me... Will they accept and change it or do they only take Visa?

Thank you!

You will be able to change USD into rupees at the airport, before you exit. There are moneychangers.
.
This is computer generated drivel. No signature is required.

No problem

As the capt. has said, you can change dollars easily. There are several banks.

$300 is quite a bit of rupees (13,500) ask for mostly large bills or your will need a truck to haul them around. Seriously, you should put most of the rupees in some kind of under clothing money pouch & just keep about $50 worth handy for taxis etc.

5 is the smallest and rather rare. Most of what you'll see is 10, 20, 50, 100, and 500. There are also 1000, which are convenient to carry but very hard to spend--most vendors and drivers don't carry that much change.

I would not carry anything higher than the 100 rupee demonination note, then. And lots of lower denom notes- particularly 10's.
