Last years post but maybe someone may have just come through and exchanged money at a particular machine/bureau/merchant. My experience at such in Dubai over Christmas was that I could should shop around for a slightly better rate. It wasn't completely uniform and it does vary modestly day to day. On the street it may vary by negotiating skills so such reports have to be weighed accordingly.
Best of luck in all..

He's not answering, he's asking.

Since he doesn't want the information I can give, I won't name numbers but... hey, the GBP has gone from 105 to 95 [ish] in a two or three months. That what you get for being rude. Trouble is, it affects the rest of us as well

Hi Nick you still in Chennai? I nearly gave you a shout couple of years ago but got totally wasted in Mahamallapuram(?)
I didn't mean to be rude it's been one of those days.
This site has changed so much since your posts were in the hundreds!
You've given me the answer I was looking for. Circa 95+.
I wonder why the GBP tumbled on the rupee, it gained on Baht which helps me greatly.
Thanks mate, take care.
Have a good trip!

Buck, no problem! :D

My rates come from looking at The Hindu every day. That is probably not so different from anyFXsite-dot-com, so long as you don't take the basic interbank rate. It is around 95/96-ish at the moment. It was 100-plus for a while. Maybe the Rupee rose; maybe people are jittery about the pound and Brexit.

If you are going to draw cash from ATMs, the further killer is your British bank's charges for that. I got 94 on an actual bank transfer on 22 April. No actual transaction since then. Actual rate cash for cash, account to account, all inclusive through money2india.com

Certainly I'm still in Chennai. Am expecting to be so for the foreseeable future. Probably until I can start giving real practical answers about the fear of death! Always welcome to give a shout when passing nearby.

if Britain leaves the EU they expect the £ to drop by at least 20%!!!
Remember being in Calcutta when Britain pulled out of the ERM and the £ nosedived!!!

That reminds me of the old British joke headline: Fog in the Channel: Europe Isolated
