Hi IM friends,
I am planning a trip to western Assam and Meghalaya. We're a group of 6 senior citizens couples. Fit for traveling. All fit for 1-2 hours'tracking and half the team for 3-4 hours' tracking.
Our rough itinerary is like this.
28 February- reach Guwahati. Local sightseeing.
1 March- Excursion to Chandubi and Kiosk river dolphins.
2,3 March - Kaziranga.
4 March - reach Umiam lake, stay overnight.
9,10 March- Manas national park
11 March - evening flight to Mumbai.
My query is mainly pertaining to 4 days in Meghalaya (5-8).
We would like to cover
1) Shillong and around
2) Sohra and around
3) Dawkins and Mawlynnong
4)Nongkhunum island and the places on the way (Mawphlang, sacred grove, Kyllang rock etc)
Q1- is it wise to stay at Shillong and cover the first three parts? Moving luggage from one place to another is likely to be cumbersome.
Q2- can we cover Dawki- Mawlynnong by usual route and return via Jowai?
Q3- will it be worth visiting the waterfalls? Though the area has India's tallest waterfalls, in this season, will they be only trickle-like?
Q4- if we start early on 4th day (March 8), reach Nongstoin, can we complete the sightseeing that day? Obviously, we'll have to stay there. Is there a place there for 12 persons to stay? Can/should it be booked beforehand?
Q5- if we start on 9th morning from Nongstoin, can we comfortably reach Manas by afternoon? We should probably take Nongstoin-Boko-Goalpara-Barpeta route.
Q5- what is the road condition especially the last leg of the travel?
Dr. Sanghvi.
