Guwahati via Patharkhmah

As for going back to guwahati via patharkhmah and ranibari, you are travelling north, so you will not see bangladesh which is in the south. besides its better you drop the idea and take the normal route as there is no public transport in that route

Sorry reviving an old thread as I couldn't find information regarding this route anywhere.

Can I take this route from Shnongpdeng back to Guwahati in my car? Is the road condition good? Google maps is showing an additional 2 hrs for his route. Is the extra time worth it in terms of scenic beauty? Will we find dhabas/khasi tea stalls(khasi food) enroute?

I am not sure what exactly you wanted to find out, but the road via Patharkhmah and Ranibari is pretty ok.

The Shnongpdeng - Amlarem - Jowai - Shillong bypass road - Umiam Lake - Guwahati route is very scenic and the roads are very good. In fact quite a few places to see along the way.

You will find food stalls / dhabas in Amlarem, Mawryngkneng and Bypass road and restaurants/guest houses after Jowai town.

The distance may be 40-50km more, but time wise will be just about 1 hour or so more without the sightseeing halts.

Thanks for the quick response, Karikor.

I have already been on the Ghy-Jowai road during the recent NH7 weekender. Been to sights around Jowai too. Was just thinking of taking this alternate route as I have not traveled on this.

Regarding the scenic routes, I have found the Shillong to Tura highway to be the most scenic and fun to drive among the roads in Meghalaya. But I have only been to Markasa. Not sure if the roads go all the way to Tura as the highway is newly constructed.

Off-point, do you think 1 day and night is enough for Shnongpdeng?

The road after Jowai is pretty good upto Dawki. One plus point of ban on coal mining is that the trucks don't get to damage the roads so soon.

The Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura is pretty good. Just the 100km Nongstoin - Rongjeng stretch is pretty curvy and few places to stop for lunch/tea.

1 day and 1 night in Shnongpdeng with all the activities should be ok.

Can you recommend any good off-beat places near Shnongpdeng(100km radius) to visit and spend a night as well? We dont mind trekking as well but need a safe place to park the car.
