Hello karikor,

Me and my friends are visiting the Shillong & Cherrapunji, we wanted to do some trek as well as sightseeing.

We are coming to Guwahati on Saturday at 10 am , We have back flight on Wednesday at 16.30. We have almost 5 days, so required help to plan my trip.

I heard that we can do trekking from Cherrapunji to Mawlynnong via double decker bridge so please help me on this.

Our interest is to do trekking but at the same time we do not want to miss the most important & beautiful places of Shillong & Cherrapunji.

Kindly help how can I plan my trip to enjoy trekking as well as sightseeing.

Thanks,
Praveen

Praveen,

For 4.5 days and considering the season, I would recommend that apart from Double Decker Living Roots bridge trek , you can also think of the bigger Mawmluh cave and watersports at Shnongpdeng village.

Coming to treks, I am not sure of the Sohra- Mawlynnong via Double Decker root bridge trek, but yes you can always do the Wahlyngkhat - Rngain via Riblai trek.

For the Double Decker Living root bridge trek, can do Tyrna- Nongriat- Rainbow falls-Bottom of Nohkalikai falls - Nohkalikai falls viewpoint - Top of Nohkalikai falls - Sohra trek.

Should you find time, you can do the David Scott Trek from Mawphlang - Lad Mawphlang (the complete trek being from Nongkhlaw to Bangladesh border), as well or the Nongshillong - Mawthadraishan- Mawphanlur - Markasa trek.

Hello karikor,

Double Decker Living root bridge trek, can do Tyrna- Nongriat- Rainbow falls-Bottom of Nohkalikai falls - Nohkalikai falls viewpoint - Top of Nohkalikai falls - Sohra trek.

I Understood the trek till Rainbow falls, after that I am not getting how to continue further and can we do that all in two days, If we want to halt where to halt and how do we have to proceed further kindly guide us.

Thanks,

You can do this,

Start from Tyrna early , proceed to Nongriat (2hrs), From Nongriat proceed to Natural Swimming Pools (20mins) and Rainbow falls (1 hr from Nongriat). Halt at Nongriat.
Next morning get a guide to take you to bottom of Nohkalikai falls and climb up to Nohkalikai view point (3-4 hrs trek), from Nohkalikai viewpoint, move a km or more ahead toward Sohra, pay 50 rupees per head for guide to take you to the top of Nohkalikai falls (possible only till March). From there come back to main road and walk 3-4 km to Sohra market.

Hi karikor and IMers,

I am trekking the Double Decker Living Roots bridge trail this weekend. At this time of the year (and Geography), should I be worried about leeches and prepare accordingly?

You should not be worried at all. Just carry salt or tobacco leaves just in case.
