Hi All! I have read through a couple of posts on this topic and have got some of my answers already, am writing now to seek help on the rest.

I am from Hyderabad & am planning for a trip to Guwahati, Shillong & Cherrapunjee from 4th June-12th June along with my wife. Our trip's aim is to cover as many places as possible in this region but within a tight budget only. Accordingly, we are ok to go for local/shared transportation wherever possible & look at basic accommodation only. I have already spent 25k on my flight tickets & can spare an equal amount for stay, travel & food for these 8 days.

Following is the itinerary that I have firmed up as of now along with tentative expenditure, please share your thoughts:

4th June- Reach at 9am at Guwahati Airport
4th June- Depart to Barapani by shared cab/bus, overnight halt at Orchid Lake Resort
5th June- Leave for Shillong, check in to Boulevard Hotel
5th June- Take MTDC Shillong city tour (Please suggest if these tours will be operational in June)
6th June- Take MTDC Mawsynram tour (Please suggest if these tours will be operational in June. Also please suggest if doing this trip from Cherrapunji will make more sense)
7th June- Take MTDC Nartiang tour or Mawlynnong tour by cab (Please let me know if this Mawlynnong tour will be worth it)
8th June- Leave for Cherrapunjee by shared cab/bus, local sightseeing (Please suggest if MTDC runs any tour), overnight halt at Coniferous resort
9th June- Living root bridge (Please suggest if a guide is needed for this or the route is well laid out. Also will I have to take a cab for this from Coniferous resort?)
10th June- Double Decker bridge (Please suggest if a guide is needed for this or the route is well laid out. Also will I have to take a cab for this from Coniferous resort?)
11th June- leave for Guwahati, Kamakhya temple, Brahmaputra river cruise (Please suggest if this service will be operational in June), overnight at hotel
12th June- Afternoon flight back to Hyderabad

I have knowingly omitted the Mawphlang sector due to the following reasons:
1. Additional cab expense
2. Not sure how much fun will the David Scott trek be in June

Would appreciate if someone could throw light on the queries captured in brackets & let me know if this itinerary looks fine keeping in mind my trip's aim of maximum travel with minimum expense

Thank you Karikor, will check with them.

Also am hoping the double decker/living root bridge treks will be possible during the monsoons. We are planning on putting on our raincoats & wandering out if it rains, provided we get guides & transportation. Is a guide must for reaching the living root bridges or can we manage by asking people around? Would appreciate if someone can also help us with the must do's in & around Shillong & Cherrapunjee during the monsoons. As per our itinerary, we will be based at Coniferous resort & will have 4 days at our disposal.

Yes it is not only possible but also exciting to wander around in the rains. Places like Sohra, you will find the local transport to be pretty efficient. 100 bucks from SHillong to Sohra. As for Nongriat trek, if you are on a tight budget, I would suggest leaving the guide out. However if you are not confident enough, get the guide.

As for what to do, please check the different threads, info of which is already mentioned many times. For that number of days, you should be covering quite a number of places.

As for stay, if you want to save even more, I would suggest opting for By the Way.

Hello Karikor, not sure if By the Way will work out for us as it is a backpacker destination with shared facilities. Can you recommend any place else which is centrally located & not too heavy on the purse , also if we can get any bicycles/2 wheelers on rent for moving around in Sohra & if we can use them to cover the local sight seeing destinations?

Ok. What sort of budget do you plan to keep for accommodation at Sohra? By the way, you can cover the entire Meghalaya on a Royal Enfield. You can hire one from Shillong. Many couples whom I have helped, have gone for that option.

Karikor, that would be like a cherry on the cake! Can you please share more details on how to hire an enfield & the tentative rentals for the same? Also are there any bicycle tours that are conducted in Sohra?

Also am ok to spend up to 1500 for accommodation but am looking for something central from where all sightseeing points will be accessible. Do not need a hotel/resort type amenities, a warm homestay would also be perfectly fine. Any help in this regard from you will be gladly welcomed.
