Need Help Planning Meghalaya Trip from 19th-Dec 29th 2017

Hi All,

I am planning a trip to Meghalaya from 19th Dec 2017- 29th Dec 2017.

We will reach Guwahati on 19th Dec Morning. Our return flight on 29th is from Guwahati. Hence, Would like the cover places in Guwahati, kaziranga at the end. I plan to have 3 days at Shillong. I will have with me my 70 year old father and my 5 and half year old son. Hence, looking at a lil relaxed, budget friendly options.

Could anyone please help me itenerary and the suggested hotels for booking.
Will I get shared transport facility or is it possible to break the hired car if our stay goes for 2 or 3 days and hire a different cab from the subsequent location?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Archana Harithas

Hi Archana,

You can book a cab from Guwahati to Shillong drop and then book cabs from Shillong for local site seeing. Likewise you can book a cab from Shillong to Guwahati return.
I stayed at Hotel Centre Point twice at Shillong and I quite liked it.
There is a Govt. Tourism office very near to that hotel from where I think you can even book on shared basis.
Going to Cherrapunjee and returning on the same day will probably be tiresome for the elderly and children.
On the other hand if someone falls sick in Cherrapunjee there are not much medical help. I have a personal experience where my mother-in-law was unwell and hasd to be shifted to Shillong in the middle of the night. However, ambulance service was very quick and they did not even charge I think.
But the scenery on the way to Cherrapunjee from Shillong the best experience I had in Meghalaya.

What sort of budget are you looking at?

By the way, you can pick up an Assam registration vehicle for your Kaziranga leg of the trip and then from Shillong pick up a local Meghalaya taxi.

How many of you are travelling?

Harithas Oct 18th, 2017 23:51

Thanks Deep and Karikor for responding... My father is quite fit and should be manageable to stay at cheerapunji for a night... We are three of us.. my budget is about 2k per night at a hotel. Would like to understand if we hire a cab for the whole trip in Meghalaya excluding last two days in guwahati i.e. 27th and 28th, what could be the cost? And also, if I reach shillong on 19th, till 26th what all can I cover in Meghalaya?

karikor Oct 19th, 2017 11:40

Can I get help in planning the exact itenerary? considering we reach Guwahati on 19th Dec 2017 by 11:00 AM and return flight is at 7:00 AM on 29th from Guwahati. AM yet to make the hotel booking. Can you please help me with the plan and I shall book accomodation accordingly. Also, if we hire a seperate cab for the whole trip, is there a rough estimate I can get based on your view?

Also, do you have suggesstions on hotels in all of the places we stay at.

karikor Oct 19th, 2017 18:17

Ok. Cab like swift faire should cost you about 2000-2500 a day.
Accommodation will mostly depend on how the itinerary turns up. But let's have a go.

19- Reach Guwahati. Proceed to Mawphlang. Halt
20- Mawphlang - Mawlyngbna . Halt
21- Mawlyngbna - Mawphanlur. Halt
22- Mawphanlur - Nongkhlaw- David Scott trek - Sohra. Halt
23 - Sohra sightseeing - Nongriat. Halt
24- Nongriat - Sohra - Mawlynnong. Halt
25 - Mawlynnong - Dawki -Shnongpdeng. Halt
26 - Shnongpdeng-Amlarem - Syndai - Jowai Halt
27 - Jowai - Nartiang - Laitlum - Shillong. Halt
28 - Shillong sightseeing - Guwahati. Halt
29 - catch flight at 7am.

The number of days is just perfect.

Thanks Karikor!

This sounds good. I might want an additional day at guwahati to visit kaziranga.
Can I do this?

19- Reach Guwahati. Proceed to Mawphlang. Halt

21- Mawlyngbna - Mawphanlur. Halt

23 - Sohra sightseeing - Nongriat. Halt
24- Nongriat - Sohra - Mawlynnong. Halt

What do you think of the above plan? will I miss out a lot if I skip the initial plan suggested for 25th and 26th?
Also, considering the tension in bangladesh, is it safe to visit the borders now?

karikor Oct 19th, 2017 21:31

There is no tension with Bangladesh.

This is the itinerary I was suggested.

May I know if there are recommendations on budget friendly stay options. I am looking at max of 1000-1200 per night.

Also, What all are the places I shud be aiming to cover each day?

I enquired a cab to hire and I am told it would be Rs.3500 per day. After this comes all the additional expense of the meals, the local tour guides etc.
Is there a shared cab I can avail?

Any help is much appreciated.

Harithas
