Kari is a local and very knowledgeable and would guide you better, since he is back. i can give you more of a travellers perspective. and i too travelled with my kids 4, 8 years old

Regarding a toddler, just see if you would be able to do the walk for Mawlyngbna, wasn't a problem for my kiddos, but you guys might have to carry him.

And they loved the trip. till today my 4 year old keeps saying he will make a house in meghalaya on a mountain, in a grassland and will have goats grazing around.. keeps pushing me saying he wants to climb another mountain and do fishing..

so wherever you go, i think you would love it..

Now I am having problem regarding the availability of Tourist Nest in Mawphanlur and Mawlyngbna.
I am arriving in Guwahati on 19 Jan-

TN Mawphanlur does not have the availability on 19th and 20th Jan
TN Mawlyngbnna has availability on 20 and 22 and not on 21st Jan.

Considering this, does my this itinerary looks good-
19 Jan- Land in guwahati- Guwahati to shillong- stay in Shilong
20 Jan- Shillong to Mawlyngbna- stay in Mawlyngbna
21 Jan- Mawlyngbna to Mawphanlur- stay in Mawphanlur
22 Jan- Mawphanlur to Sohra- stay in Sohra
23 Jan- Stay in Sohra
24 Jan- Sohra to Shnengdpong- Stay in Shnengdpong
25 Jan- Shnengdpong to Shillong- stay in Shillong
26 Jan- Shillong to Guwahati
27 Jan- early morning flight fromm Guwahati

- I want to reduce my travelling time between one place to another. I would be having my own vehicle.
- From the other posts on IM i came to know that i should stay in remote places like Mawphanlur, Mawlyngbna, Shondengpang if want to really enjoy Meghalya. Thats why I am not doing day trips to these places. Please suggest.

Hi Karikor,

Any specific reason why Jowai? The reason why i was plannijg to go to shillong that day was because i wanted to reach guwahati early with less travek in between. Is there any place to visit on the way from Jowai to Guwahati?

It makes your travel more of a loop. So that you wont have to pass the same road twice. Plus Jaintia Hills has its own beauty. And Jowai is just another 30km from Krangshuri

Then 26th stay in Guwahati. Try to get a place in Nehu Guest House which is just 150-200meters from Airport

I had already booked hotel for Shillong on 25th. But that is refundable i guess and would cancel it. This is my uodated itinerary now-

25 Jan- Shnengdpong to Jowai- stay in Jowai
26 Jan- Jowai to Guwahati
27 Jan- early morning flight from Guwahati

Questions-
1) Can i cover the Shillong local sightseeing in half day on 19th Jan?
2) Any leads where i can stay in Shnongpdeng and Jowai?
3) Mawlynnong vs Shnongpdeng - which is better option to stay on 24th Jan?

Questions-

1) Can i cover the Shillong local sightseeing in half day on 19th Jan?

There is not much to see in Shillong- a few parks and churches and cafe hopping in the evening.

2) Any leads where i can stay in Shnongpdeng and Jowai?

You can check out some past Trip Reports. I am sure you will find some recommendations.

3) Mawlynnong vs Shnongpdeng - which is better option to stay on 24th Jan?

For January, I would say Shnongpdeng. Mawlynnong becomes a Times Square during the day.

Thanks Karikor for your inputs. I would put the places that i would like to cover and share with you for suggestions. As of now, for hotels, i have few other questions-

1) is it sugggested to stay in police bazar area of Shillong? I am getting few hotels which are cheaper but in police bazar.
2) I read in a post on IM that all the TN are of 1500 rs price. But when i contacted the owner of TN Mawlyngbna, he quoted me 2000rs. Is this fine?
3) Can we reach Guwahati from Jowai in 3 hours? How are the roads there?
4) If time would permit should i focus more on things to se between jowai and guwahati or should i give more time in guwahati on the final day?
5) is there anything apart from Kamakhya temple in Guwahati to do? Is the sunset ferry worth the time?

1) is it sugggested to stay in police bazar area of Shillong? I am getting few hotels which are cheaper but in police bazar.

What is your budget like? I would not recommend staying in Police Bazaar. It is the most dirty and congested part of the city. You will not feel like you came to a hill station.

2) I read in a post on IM that all the TN are of 1500 rs price. But when i contacted the owner of TN Mawlyngbna, he quoted me 2000rs. Is this fine?

If you are contacting the village cooperative guys directly , then it should be fine. As the rates are fixed by the viallge itself. If through some agent, then perhaps you need to check again.

3) Can we reach Guwahati from Jowai in 3 hours? How are the roads there?

Roads are very good. You should reach Guwahati city in 3.5 hours from Jowai.

4) If time would permit should i focus more on things to se between jowai and guwahati or should i give more time in guwahati on the final day?

There are a couple of things to see in Jowai also like Ialong Park, Syntu Ksiar river, Tyrchi falls and Thadlaskein lake. If you still have more time, then Nartiang monoliths and Durga temple.

5) is there anything apart from Kamakhya temple in Guwahati to do? Is the sunset ferry worth the time?

Guwahati is a proper city and has been the commercial center of the north east for centuries. Planetarium, zoo etc is there apart from the malls.
Sunset ferry should be good. But best time is summer when the cool breeze from the river blows on your face. Also check their timings for winter.

Hi Karikor. Thanks for your input.

My driver is suggesting that I might miss Kamakhya temple visit on 26th Jan as it would take 6 hours to reach from Jowai to Guwahati and another 3-4 hours is needed to visit Kamakhya temple. He is, rather, suggesting to stay in Shillong on 25th Jan after visiting Krag Shuri falls.

How true is he? Please suggest.
