Hi,

We are(group of 5) planning a trip to Assam and Meghalaya from 20th to 28th Jan.
Here is itinerary we have in mind.

1. 20th Jan --> our flight lands in Guwahati around 12.30pm, we plan to travel to shillong on the same day, possible homestay --> maple pine farm. visit umium lake on the way.
Questions: is it feasible to visit umium and reach homestay before sundown?
2. 21st Jan and 22nd Jan--> Leave for nongriat village, visit rainbow falls (trek to double decker living root bridges) stay at serene homestay on 21st night. We also want to do nohkalikai falls trek.
Questions: should we stay at serene homestay for 22nd also, will it be too much effort to return to serene homestay after nonkalikai falls trek?
3. 23rd Jan: Mawsmai Caves (cave hunting), mawlynnong and reach dwaki, overnight stay here
4. 24th Jan: dwaki river, scuba diving etc. leave for Guwahati post-lunch.
Questions: can we reach guwahati before nightfall? or should we stay somewhere before Guwahati? it would be great if anyone can suggest homestay (instead of stay at Guwahati).
5. 25th Jan: Guwahati to kaziranga, reach by lunch time, jeep safari in the afternoon. any budget places to stay??
6. 26th Jan: kaziranga do morning elephant safari, leave for majuli island. overnight stay at majuli
7. 27th Jan: explore majuli island. visit satras and walk around mishing village.
places to stay at majuli??
8. 28th Jan: leave for Guwahati early morning.

Does itinerary look okay, are any days too much crammed?

Also we are juggling between travel options.
1. to book a zoomcar for entire duration: which costs around 3k-4k per day.
2. book car + driver for entire duration: 4k per day, if anyone can give driver contacts, it would be very helpful.
3. shared sumos as suggested in many blogs: only question here is are vehicles available for internal commute e.g. from tyrna to Mawsmai caves etc.
Which one will be more convenient and also budget-friendly.

any comment/suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi,

Here are some pointers to help you out -

1. 20th Jan --> our flight lands in Guwahati around 12.30pm, we plan to travel to shillong on the same day, possible homestay --> maple pine farm. visit umium lake on the way.
Questions: is it feasible to visit umium and reach homestay before sundown?
Ans: Nothing much to see or do in Umiam Lake, plus its on the way, so you can stop for 20-30mins which will be more than enough.

2. 21st Jan and 22nd Jan--> Leave for nongriat village, visit rainbow falls (trek to double decker living root bridges) stay at serene homestay on 21st night. We also want to do nohkalikai falls trek.
Questions: should we stay at serene homestay for 22nd also, will it be too much effort to return to serene homestay after nonkalikai falls trek?
Ans: Does not make sense to come back to Serene after the Nohkalikai trek as you would have reached Sohra.

3. 23rd Jan: Mawsmai Caves (cave hunting), mawlynnong and reach dwaki, overnight stay here

Pointer: Instead of Mawsmai, do Arwah Cave. On your way to Mawlynnong cover Garden of Caves and Shilliang Jashar as well. On your way to Dawki cover Byrdaw falls. Do not halt at Dawki, halt at Shnongpdeng.

4. 24th Jan: dwaki river, scuba diving etc. leave for Guwahati post-lunch.
Questions: can we reach guwahati before nightfall? or should we stay somewhere before Guwahati? it would be great if anyone can suggest homestay (instead of stay at Guwahati).

Ans: Dawki is a village not a river. River is Umngot. You will reach Guwahati by 5pm, if you start at 12 noon.

For your itinerary, self drive car is fine.
