Meghalaya in monsoon
Hi everybody,
I am planning a trip to meghalaya in month of august for 10 days and would stick only to khasi hills.I have researched a bit and booked flights to and from guwahati and finalised on a couple of places .Here is my semi rough itinerary which i expect to be refined from the esteemed members on platform
11th August:Flight to guwahati-Reach by 12 :30 pm,catch meghalaya tourism airport service bus and reach shillong.I need to reach mawphlang the same day as i have booked our stay at maple pines for 11th and 12th.Need suggestions to reach mawphlang either from shillong or directly from guwahati. No budget for private taxi
12th august: visit sacred forest at mawphlang and spend the day chilling around.
13th:We wish to go to mawphlnur and stay at travellers nest-booked-how to reach there from mawphlang? public transport?shared vehichle?bike on rent from maple pine?
14th:mawphlanur(any suggestions here) we have most of 13th and 14th for here
15th:leave for cherapunjee, how to reach there?we wish to stay in cherapunjee for only 15th and do the sightseeing either by hiring a taxi or bicycle or bike(suggest)
16th :leave for nongriat and stay
17th :nongriat and stay(suggestion to see around as we have almost complete 16th and entire 17th here)
where to stay in nongriat? is it possible to get a room with attached toilet?this is the part where we are confused as if to stay in nongriat for 2 days or stay in cherpaunjee for 2 days and keep one night in nongriat
18th:kongthong,how to reach?night stay
19th:leave for shillong?how to reach? night stay here
20th:back to guwahati for flight
does the itinerary sounds reasonable ?we dont want it to be too hectic,we want to take our own place and loiter around and feel the places, mising on few places is acceptable.
please help us in choosing a cheap mode of transport for our trip.shared is cool with us ,our travelling budget is 12k(be it taxi or shared or bike or anything)

Itinerary sounds okay. But you should not miss out the Krangsuri falls esp in August.
I would recommend hiring a bike and a raincoat for your trip. Nothing like it. If you have these two, there is possibilities for anything.
As for how to reach Mawphlang, you can go to Iew Duh or Anjali sumo stand and catch a shared cab for 40-50 bucks

Thanks a lot Karikor. I have made an itinerary.
Day 1: Guwahati Shillong Mawsynram
I do not want to stop at Shillomg as I have visited Shillong before also.
Day 2: Mawsynram Mawlyngba
Day 3: Mawlyngba Mawphlang
Day 4: Mawphlang sacred groves Sohra/Cherrapunji (David Scott Trail, I think)
Day 5: Cherrapunji
Day 6: Cherrapunji Nongriat.
Want to do Rainbow Falls also. So will stay here.
Day 7: Nongriat Mawlynnong Dawki- Snogpdeng
Day 8: Return to Shillong
Day 9: Shillong Umden - Guwahati
This is a rough itinerary I made. Is this doable? I mean is the order of the places right?
I have also read about Ialong village. Can that be included anywhere here.
Thanks in advance.

Roshnie,
This is what I would suggest:
Day 0: Reach Guwahati . Halt
Day 1: Guwahati – Shillong – Mawphlang. Halt
Day 2: Mawphlang – Mawlyngba. Halt
Day 3: Mawlyngba – Mawphlang – David Scott Trek - Sohra. Halt
Day 4: Sohra sightseeing. Halt
Day 5: Sohra - Nongriat. Halt
Day 6: Nongriat - Rainbow falls -Mawlynnong. Halt
Day 7: Mawlynnong - Dawki - Shnongpdeng. Halt
Day 8: Shnongpdeng - Amlarem - Jowai/Thadlaskein - Halt
Day 9: Jowai – Umden / Sohliya village - Guwahati
You have just enough of days to actually do a proper Khasi-Jaintia Hills trip.

Planning for an August Trip
Hi Fellow Travellers,
Looks like a lot of people are heading towards the rainy state this August!
This is my first post in this forum, and I would be grateful if you can offer your valuable suggestions...
My Itinerary is as follows:
10th August: Leave KOLKATA for Guwahati by air, reach by evening (8:30 ish), night stay at Guwahati.
11th August: Visit Kamakhya Temple as early as possible in the morning and then leave for Shillong (or Sohra maybe?). Visit Elephant Falls, Shillong view point and Umiam Lake on the way.
12th August: Stay at Shillong, visit Mawlynnong on a day trip.
13th August: Leave for Sohra, visiting Mawlynnong on a day trip, stay at Sohra.
14th August: Stay at Sohra, site-seeing.
15th August: Leave for Guwahati (return flight to KOLKATA @ 3:10PM)
I confess my plans are probably too erratic, hence my request. Any suggestions/refinements that you can suggest? I haven't booked any hotels except the one night at Guwahati, will do once I confirm the locations.
Thanks...
