Going by your advice, we will go in for a 11 day Meghalaya trip and add Kaziranga towards the beginning of the tour. Here is what we have planned now:

Day 1 - Arrive in Guwahati and drive to Kaziranga
Day 2 - Kaziranga
Day 3 - Drive from Kaziranga to Shillong
Day 4 - Shillong sightseeing
Day 5 - Shillong to Mawphanlur
Day 6 - Visit to Nongkhnum island and stay at Mawlyngbna
Day 7 - Mawlyngbna to Mawphlang
Day 8 - Mawphlang to Cherranpunjee
Day 9 - Cherrapunjee sightseeing
Day 10 - Double decker trek (I need help with this day. I'm not sure if we can do this with our 4 year old child).
Day 11 - Travel to Mawlynnong, Dawki and stay at Shnongpdeng
Day 12 - Shnongpdeng to Jowai
Day 13 - Jowai to Guwahati
Day 14 - Guwahati
Day 15 - Flight from Guwahati to Bangalore.

Do you have any recommendations to the above itinerary. As already mentioned, we have a 4 year old child, so any thing which doesnt make sense with him, we may want to avoid (Day 10).

We are just 3 of us travelling and so a car like Etios will be comfortable. We also need help on stay options in the range of 2-3k per day.

For the double decker trek, i am taking my 4 year kid next week, may be will tell you afterwards. We are 4 adults and would carry him for most of the way up. We have a 8 year old kid as well and if there are issues, will check for a guide who can carry him up. I am staying one day at nongriat itself, to make it easier for both of them. I am told that you can hire a guy, who can carry your kid through the trek. Anyways, with kids, just dont stretch them too much, if they are having fun, they would cover everything in enthusiasm.

Otherwise, the trip to me looks ok, and wont be too taxing for the kid

Itinerary looks ok. I would just suggest that you substitute Day 14 in Guwahati with maybe 1 day trip to Majuli island. Since I don't think there is anything much to do in Guwahati except shopping.

For vehicle, you can always contact Pradeep Modak. He has a Chevy Sail and can double up as guide to some of the places.

As for places to stay:-

Day 3 - Drive from Kaziranga to Shillong - Depends whether you want to stay in the city or outskirts
Day 4 - Shillong sightseeing - Same as above
Day 5 - Shillong to Mawphanlur - Travellers Nest, Mawphanlur
Day 6 - Visit to Nongkhnum island and stay at Mawlyngbna - Travellers Nest, Mawlyngbna
Day 7 - Mawlyngbna to Mawphlang - Maple Pines Farms
Day 8 - Mawphlang to Cherranpunjee - Kutmadan / La Kupar Inn / Saimika
Day 9 - Cherrapunjee sightseeing - Cherra Holiday Resort
Day 10 - Double decker trek (I need help with this day. I'm not sure if we can do this with our 4 year old child). - Cafe Cherrapunjee
Day 11 - Travel to Mawlynnong, Dawki and stay at Shnongpdeng - Halatong / Shatsngi Homestay
Day 12 - Shnongpdeng to Jowai - Travellers Nest, Ialong

That will be a good if you share your first hand experience. Also you never know with these kids, they may not want somebody else to carry them . Anyway will look forward to know your experience.

Thank you for this. We would like some off beat place at Shillong. It can be in the outskirts of the city, however must fall en-route for the following day. Else we may prefer staying in the city. Any recommendations for stay in Kaziranga?

Guwahati to Majuli is about 350km one way. Can this be covered in one day? Also would you be able to share the contact number of the taxi guy.

Oh sorry, I missed the point that you are staying a night at Nongriat, so you can choose Serene Guest House.

As for experiences, we I still have to get a child first before telling you my personal experience. But I have come across many who have taken their 4-5 year old daughters up and down on the same day.

You can opt for Annesville at 2nd Mile Upper Shillong

As for Kaziranga, the last time I stayed there was more than 20 years ago, and I stayed at Wildgrass Resort. Many more must have come up by now.

So what you can do is drive up to Majuli, then come back and halt at Kaziranga for the morning Elephant Safari. Else you can visit nearby towns like Tezpur and other nearby Sanctuaries like Nameri.

As for Pradeep's number, you will find it all over this forum.

You will need to hurry up a bit. April onwards till November you would have to book 2 months in advance for most places.

So last night i called Pradeep and spoke to him about our trip. He was saying that he will check with Kaziranga if it will be open during May month and let us know today evening. Would Kaziranga be closed in May? Also, he was saying that he will make an itinerary for us if we let him know how many days we have in hand. He said that because we mentioned to him that we are looking to do an off beat trip of Meghalaya and want to cover most part of the state. I'm not too sure if we should wait for him to work on an itinerary for us or simply tell him that we have an itinerary already and that we are only looking for a taxi service.

Please help me in making this decision as we dont really have a lot of time to waste. We still haven't booked our flight tickets!

Shweta,

I am sure Pradeep will be using 90-95% of the same sort of itinerary that I have made for you.

He is a good taxi guy and is sometimes too enthu to act as guide as well. Also some have said that he does talk a lot.

As for Kaziranga, I do not see any problem if you do it within the month of April.
