Hello Debayan,

I am so sorry. I must have missed your post while travelling.

Your itinerary looks fine. But we may also improve further since some more places may be added since Krishnandu's trip.

I hope you are all adults and fit and strong.

Many Thanks Mr. Karikor for your valued response.
My apologies for replying late as I was vacationing in Tripura
Seeing your comments,I was now thinking about adding more places to my programme. It has been revised to some extent as now only 04 adults all in the age group of 25-32 will be going,so no fitness issues as such.
Day 09 programme has also been revised as follows-
"Day 09:Jowai/Lalong-Shillong(120 kms). En Route Visit Tyrshi Falls, Thadlaskein Lake,Nartiang Monoliths & Durga Temple,Laitlum view Point,Sweet Falls & Ever Living Museum).
Post Lunch,Departure for Guwahati Airport for catching the Indigo 18:25 hrs flight back to Kolkata"

About your suggestions,Should I include a night's stay at Maple Fine Farm in Mawphlang instead of spending 02 nights at Mawlyngbna? Please advise.
Also,I was very much interested in doing the Double Decker Living Root bridge trek a Nongriat. But due to unwillingness of the others in the group,I have left it out of the itinerary intentionally.
What more places do you like me to include in the itinerary to make the tour a memorable one?
Also,I came across the name of Modak brothers quite a few times during my planning. They seem to be very well known in this circuit.Should I get in touch with them and arrange the accommodations separately or Should I speak to a tour operator with my itinerary so that they can arrange the same, albeit at an enhanced price. How should I go about it,please suggest.

So nice. Hope Tripura was good to you.

Day 9 - its better you leave straight to Guwahati airport after Nartiang via Shillong Bypass road. No need to come back to Shillong.

Its a better idea to spend a night at Mawphlang.

You can think of Krem Puri near Mawlyngbna, Mawryngkhang Rock at Wahkhen, Mawpoon falls at Cham cham, David Scot Trek, Waterfalls trek, Weisawdong falls etc etc

For stay it is best you contact the hotels/guesthouses directly. No need to go through anyone. Tour Operators will not even know half of these places.

As for drivers, better use them as drivers since most of them tend to be oversmart and will try to influence your entire itinerary for whatever reasons they have.

Thanks for your prompt response.

As you have suggested proceeding to Guwahati from Nartiang bypassing Shillong, then will I miss Laitlum view Point,Sweet Falls & Ever Living Museum or do they fall en route?

I shall be including one night stay at Mawphlang and revise the itinerary based on your valuable inputs. The revised itineray,I would like to share with you before going for the booking.

Maybe this afternoon,I shall be getting in touch with you with the revised itinerary for your suggestions on the same.

Hi Debayan,

You have one full entire day on your 2nd day. You can divide it into 2 sessions. The morning session can be covered for places a little away from Shillong like Laitlum etc and the post lunch session for places in the city or vice versa. SOme of the places you have mentioned for day 2 can be avoided.

Looking forward to your changes.

Have a nice day

What places should I avoid on my day 2 itinerary i.e. Shillong local sightseeing? As per information gathered,Sohliya strawberry Farm can be avoided as it is not worth it.Krishnandu also mentioned skipping the Don Bosco Museum. SO these 2 places I can safely skip. But what about the other places?

I am now planning to come to Shillong though Guwahati on 13.04.2019 around 12 noon and post lunch, would be leaving for Shillong. So I think I can cover Barapani Lake on the way.DO you think I can cover some more places on that day at Shillong?

Considering the others' travel plans,I have seen that most of them have travelled to Mawphlang on their Day 01 instead of going to SHillong, which they have covered at the later half of their trip.Is this a good plan or I should stick to my original plan i.e. Shillong on Day 01 & 02 and Mawphlang on Day 03?

After getting your reply only I shall be revising my itinerary.

You can skip the strawberry farm as it is not season. Don Bosco I would recommend not missing it. Atleast spend 1 hour if you have interest. Other places you can skip is Bishop & Beadon falls. In its place you can add Laitlum, Ever Living Museum and Sweet falls (if it has rained a few days earlier).

Shillong Peak, Airforce Museum and Elephant Falls can be covered when you go to Mawlyngbna the next day.

On Day 1 , you can visit Umiam Lake since by the time you reach it it will be 2:30-3:00 and spend 30mins. If time permits you can even cover Don Bosco Museum after that. If you like music then evenings you can check out some nice clubs and cafes.

Also I suggest you do Day 1-2 in Shillong, Day 3 in Mawlyngbna and Day 4 in Mawphlang.

Hello,

These are my following observations:-

Actually the yellow highlighted portions are difficult to read.Hence,I am again reproducing the same with the yellow highlighted parts now highlighted in BOLD RED.

Day 01: Kolkata – Guwahati by 6E 207.Scheduled Arrival at 11:50 hrs. Afternoon departure for Shillong(120 kms/3 hrs). En route visit Umiam Lake(Barapani). Check In at Hotel. If time permits, visit Don Bosco Museum. Evening Stroll at Shillong Market/Police Bazar.N/s at Shillong.

This is fine

Day 02: Shillong Local Sightseeing.Places to see:
1st Half: Laitlum view Point, Shillong Peak ,Sweet Falls & Ever Living Museum
2nd Half: Don Bosco Museum (If not possible on day 01), Lady Hydari Park , Wards Lake, Jitbhumi (Tagore House), Beadon Bishop Falls etc. N/s at Shillong

Rapleng peak can be added in 1st Half.
Beadon falls can be skipped. Local archery, Golf Club house and maybe Butterfly museum can be added in 2nd half.

Day 03: Shillong to Mawlyngbna(75 kms). En route visit Airforce Museum and Elephant Falls. Post lunch Trek to Iew Luri Lura, Split Rock, Pitcher Plant Park, Umdingkain Waterfall. Experience Kayaking at Umkhakoi Reservoir. N/s at Mawlyngbna Traveller’s Nest.

Before reaching Elephant falls, you can add Shillong peak if time permits.
Add Mawjymbuin cave and Symper rock before crossing Mawsynram.

Day 04: Mawlyngbna to Mawphlang(51 kms).Explore places like Krem Puri Cave,Phantom waterfalls before reaching Mawjymbuin Cave at Mawsynram. Post Lunch Sacred Forest trek at Mawphlang(If not possible, then shall do the next day). N/s at Maple Pine Farm,Mawphlang.

Activities in Mawlyngbna and nearby may take more time. So either do Sacred Forest in the night or next day early morning.

Day 05: Mawphlang to Sohra(Cherapunjee)(65 kms).En route visit Garden of Caves at Laitmawsiang, Wah Kaba Falls. Arwah Caves, Ramkrishna Mission, David Scott Memorial N/s at Sohra/Cherapunjee.(Coniferous Resort)

Day 06: Sohra Sightseeing. Places to see:
1st Half: Nohsngithiang Falls (popularly known as Seven Sisters Falls), Mawsmai Cave, Thangkharang Park, Khoh Ramhah, Kynrem Fallsand then break for Lunch.
2nd Half: Dainthlen Falls, Nohkalikai Falls.N/s at Sohra/Cherapunjee.( Coniferous Resort)

You can add places like Weisawdong Falls and if you can squuze in 3 hours, you can do the water fall trek from Laitkynsew to Weisawdong or vice versa.

Day 07: Sohra – Mawlynnong – Dawki – Shnongpdeng(160 kms). En route visit Mawryngkhang Rocky, Mawjngih Lapynshongdor View Point, Nohwet View Point,Rani Falls, Single Decker Living Root Bridge at Riwai Village,Balancing Rock, Mawlynnong(Cleanest village in Asia), Borhill Falls,Bydrow Falls,Tamabil(Bangladesh Border Viewpoint). N/s at Shnongpdeng Camps/Halatong Tourist Homestay.

I really don't know which one is Rani falls. But there is Niriang falls. You will have to adjust accordingly as Mawryngkhang itself will take 2-3 hours. But its a must do.

Day 08 : Shnongpdeng – Amlarem – Jowai – Ialong(120 kms). After Umngot River View and Kayaking/River Boat, visit places en route like Krangshuri Waterfalls, Syndai Cave and Rupasor Bathing Ghat, Leshka Dam, Moopun Falls. N/s at Jowai/Ialong Park(Pine Breeze Guest House/Lalong Traveller’s Nest)

Leshka Dam can be left out. Thlumuwi falls and stone bridge can be added.

Day 09:Jowai/Lalong-Guwahati Airport(200kms). En Route Visit Tyrshi Falls, Thadlaskein Lake,Nartiang Monoliths & Durga Temple,). To catch 6E 572 at 18:35 hrs back to Kolkata.

Based on your valuable inputs,I have revised my itinerary, which is as follows-

Day 03: Shillong to Mawlyngbna(95 kms). En route visit Shillong Peak, Airforce Museum and Elephant Falls. Also see Mawjymbuin Cave at Mawsynram. Post lunch Trek to Iew Luri Lura, Split Rock, Pitcher Plant Park, Umdingkain Waterfall. Experience Kayaking at Umkhakoi Reservoir. N/s at Mawlyngbna Traveller’s Nest.

Day 04: Mawlyngbna to Mawphlang(51 kms).Explore places like Krem Puri Cave,Phantom waterfalls & Symper Rock before reaching Mawphlang.. Post Lunch Sacred Forest trek at Mawphlang(If not possible, then shall do the next day). N/s at Maple Pine Farm,Mawphlang.

Day 05: Mawphlang to Sohra(Cherapunjee)(65 kms).Early Morning Scared Forest Trek(If not possible the previous day).Post breakfast, depart for Sohra.En route visit Garden of Caves at Laitmawsiang, Wah Kaba Falls. Arwah Caves, Ramkrishna Mission, David Scott Memorial N/s at Sohra/Cherapunjee.(Coniferous Resort)

Day 06: Sohra Sightseeing. Places to see:
1st Half: Nohsngithiang Falls (popularly known as Seven Sisters Falls), Mawsmai Cave, Thangkharang Park, Khoh Ramhah, Kynrem Falls and then break for Lunch.
2nd Half: Dainthlen Falls, Nohkalikai Falls.N/s at Sohra/Cherapunjee.( Coniferous Resort)

Day 07: Sohra – Mawlynnong – Dawki – Shnongpdeng(170 kms). En route visit Mawryngkhang Rocky, Mawjngih Lapynshongdor View Point, Nohwet View Point, Single Decker Living Root Bridge at Riwai Village,Balancing Rock, Mawlynnong(Cleanest village in Asia), Borhill Falls,Bydrow Falls,Tamabil(Bangladesh Border Viewpoint) N/s at Shnongpdeng Camps/Halatong Tourist Homestay.

Day 08 : Shnongpdeng – Amlarem – Jowai – Ialong(120 kms). After Umngot River View and Kayaking/River Boat, visit places en route like Krangshuri Waterfalls, Syndai Cave and Ruparsor Bathing Ghat, Thlumuwi falls and stone bridge. N/s at Jowai/Ialong Park(Pine Breeze Guest House/Lalong Traveller’s Nest)

Day 09:Jowai/Lalong-Guwahati Airport(200kms). En Route Visit Tyrshi Falls, Thadlaskein Lake,Nartiang Monoliths & Durga Temple,). To catch 6E 572 at 18:35 hrs back to Kolkata.

My queries to you are-

01.What is the Waterfalls trek that you are mentioning doing in Sohra? Will it cover Dainthlen Falls & Nohkalikai Falls as well? In Spring,is it worth doing? I would definitely like to do the 3 hr trek provided conditions are favorable.Do we need a guide for the same?

02.I have placed Mawjymbuin cave on Day 03 and since,we have to return to Mawphlang via the same highway,I have kept Symper Rock on Day 04? Is it okay? Or the reverse would have been better? Or should we cover both these places on a single day e.g Day 03 or Day 04?

03.Air force Museum is closed on Monday or not? As our Day 03 falls on a Monday, then we have to reschedule it either on Day 01 or Day 02? But if it is closed on 2nd Saturday and Sunday as well, then I am afraid,we have to skip it .

04.Shillong peak is closed on Wednesday, right? Also,Tagore's house,is it worth paying a visit now that it has been bough by some private owner?

05. What place is good for staying 2 nights in Shillong? Dhankheti it seems to me as it is well connected with the city center. But I would like to have your opinion on this as we would like to stay in a not so crowded area for our 2 nights in Shillong.

The Waterfalls trek is a trek involving 6-7 waterfalls in around the same distance starting from Laitryngew which is the junction to Garden of caves upto Dainthlen and Weisawdong falls.
If it rains a few days before, it would be very good.

If time does not permit, you can leave Symper altogether and just watch it from a distance.

03.Air force Museum is closed on Monday or not? As our Day 03 falls on a Monday, then we have to reschedule it either on Day 01 or Day 02? But if it is closed on 2nd Saturday and Sunday as well, then I am afraid,we have to skip it .

I'm not sure about the timings. Can be skipped if closed.

04.Shillong peak is closed on Wednesday, right? Also,Tagore's house,is it worth paying a visit now that it has been bough by some private owner?

Only hardcore Tagore lovers visit the house. No harm visiting.

05. What place is good for staying 2 nights in Shillong? Dhankheti it seems to me as it is well connected with the city center. But I would like to have your opinion on this as we would like to stay in a not so crowded area for our 2 nights in Shillong.

My mother rents out rooms in our house ( 2 bed rooms, 1 living room, 1 kitchen) and we live near Dhankheti. There are other options also nearby.

Tip -

If you are reaching on Saturday, then do Umiam on the day you leave . Saturday give time for Don bosco museum as it is closed on Sundays.

Many many thanks for your valued reply.I have some observations-

If it rains a few days before, it would be very good.

Does this start from Khasid-U-Rai falls nearby Laitryngew PHC upto Wei Sawdong Falls involving Lyngngai Falls,Mawsawdong Falls,Janailar Falls,Mawsawa Falls & Daińthlen Falls? As per google maps,it is a 3 hr trek of 15 kms running parallely to the carway,am I right? This sound really exciting.

If time does not permit, you can leave Symper altogether and just watch it from a distance.

We would very much like to visit Symper Rock provided time permits as we won't be able to see Kyllang Rock this time. Will the time taken to see the same will strecth my program too much?

Can you give me the details?I definitely would like to spend my time in Shillong with you.

Tip -

If you are reaching on Saturday, then do Umiam on the day you leave . Saturday give time for Don bosco museum as it is closed on Sundays.

Noted.I shall be doing the same.

Now,I have seen that in your TripAdvisor Post dated 07.11.2017, you have mentioned about "If you want I can forward you a number of a very reliable local driver who is well versed and well mannered and knows Meghalaya very well. I have realized that even tour operators (especially from outside the state) as well as tourist drivers are themselves not aware of most of these hidden jewels."

Can you please share with me/PM me the details of the driver along with the vehicle he drives? It would be really helpful.

The Waterfalls trek is a trek involving 6-7 waterfalls in around the same distance starting from Laitryngew which is the junction to Garden of caves upto Dainthlen and Weisawdong falls.

Yes it is. Was it 15km ? I guess the road is but I must have taken shortcuts. A guide is needed.

I suggest you spend maximum time in and around Mawlyngbna. So many things to see and explore.

Well my mother is renting 3 rooms with an attached bathroom including a kitchen. She hasn't completed this project completely since she wants to also put a tv and a fridge so she has not yet advertised about the place. And it is about 150meters from Dhankheti point.

The fellow I was helping has finally sold his vehicle. Other people i know either don't know the places well or will try to modify the itinerary based on their interests.
You can always hire a zoom car from Guwahati as well.
