I hope someone can help me as i am so confused at the moment my girlfriend will be going back to india in November(Kolkata)as her visa is expiring and i will be going over for a visit for 5 or 6 weeks in January to see her.
I will be going over on a travel visa but can we get married on that visa ?or will i need another type of visa we have been together for a year ...will there be any problems when she appilies for her visa to come back to me in the UK?

Don't be confused!

Instead, read some of the many threads already here!

The UK Borders Agency site has all the information you could possibly want.

I think there are age restrictions, both yours and hers, (something I learnt on this site!) but the UK site is pretty clear. There will be no problems if you satisfy the requirements.

Please search this site for further information on the how and where to get married (yes you only need a tourist visa), notice periods, other requirements ...and stuff.

Yes, you can get married on your tourist visa.

Make sure you get your marriage certificate at the ceremony because otherwise it arrives about a month later and you'll need it for the spouse visa application. You'll also need half a dozen copies signed by a notary and stamped because several official people in India will want copies.

The UK spouse visa application is a real horror.

Plus you'll need proof that you can keep her and proof that you have somewhere to live and she may have to face an interview.

As soon as you arrive in the UK you'll need to start collecting evidence that you're living as man and wife in the UK because they want loads of it.

Take the original marriage certificate with you to the UK, you'll need it...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
